hi all, I have been trying to sell my car for the last 6 months or so but have been getting nowhere. I have it up on donedeal http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/363354for the last 5 months or so but have had zero intrest in it. Not even 1 perso.n has been to see it. The nct ran out last month and I cant get it retested as I cant afford the csr tax. This is the first time ive tried to sell a car and im wondering what I am doing wrong?
Will it be impossible to sell without an nct? Is there any other way I can get rid of it? Ive rang those car for cash places but they are only offering me 300-400 e
    Thanks

Would be a fairly limited market for that car which would be limited further in the fact that alot of the people who would buy it wouldn't go for a 2 litre petrol im guessing, price seems good though

A 10 year old, 2 litre French convertible is always join got be a tough sell to a very niche market. You could help it along the way by putting it just below €2K, giving at a good polish and take some better photos, on a sunny day in a better setting.

A 2 litre petrol is going to be hard to sell anyway, lack of an nct will make it even harder. Also there is no mention of any service history.

Also this line would set off alarm bells with me “Quick sale wanted as owner emigrated” meaning the person who has to sign the ownership transfer is not in the country.

2 litre engine doesn't help. It is over priced to also. Now that there is no NCT it will be harder to shift. And if I'm being honest the pictures to nothing for the ad.

Is it really though? If I had that car for sale, I would be putting it up at that price with a view that I would let it go for maybe €1900. A few other search results for the same car would say it looks fairly priced too.

I agree about not having the NCT though. If a car doesn't have an NCT, most people won't even want to know about it in 90% of cases.

Ok thanks for all the comments, have already reduced the price a couple times guess I will have to be realistic, some money is better than none!
The tranfer papers are all signed as I had hoped the car would of been sold ages ago!

    Will try get better pics.

I cant imagine there being a big demand for a car like these days, people are going for reliability and low fuel costs these days, unfortunately this car has neither, any 2 litre car is going to be hard to sell these days, the fact it is a peugeot is just going to make it harder, get the NCT and lower the price to 1950 to make it look more attractive, i agree with the comment about new pictures, that would help also, even with all of these though it it still gonna be a tough sell, you just need to be patient until someone sees it and wants it, also renew the ad often enough on donedeal

New pics price at 1,995 with a view to taking 1850 and get some nct.

If i see a car sans nct it generally tells me seller doesn't think it will or cannot get it to pass

Thats a shocking add to be fair. your photos are cack.

wash the car and take some nice photos showing every profile of the car, even if its only on your driveway. all i can see now is the bootlid, the windscreen and the tops of the seats and brake dust pitted alloy wheels.

i always set out to take 8 photos.

    1 of the engine bay
    1 of the boot
1 close up of a wheel
    1 of the front interior
    1 of the rear interior
1 at an angle taking in the front and one side of the car
and 1 at an angle taking in the rear and other side of the car
and a snap of any doccumentation you have, service history, old NCT reports etc.

First impressions are everything and you dont make them with bad photos of a dirty car.

From the advert i would remove :
    2 lady owners(inc present)
    Perfect condition
    Must be seen.
Quick sale wanted as owner emigrated

Nobody believes any of this stuff and it makes you look like a chancer.

Drop the price to €1995 for first impressions sake. Consider spending €150 on 3 months tax and the other €50 on sitting an NCT even if you know its going to fail (but you might get lucky and pass), i do find even cars with a fail sheet will sell faster as the new owner will know what they are up against. or at the very least state what date the NCT expired and how many miles it has covered since its last test.

Add a nice detailed spec list too. Just from looking at it, Leather bucket seats, 16" alloys with 4 new tyres, Climate control, Power folding roof, electric windows and mirrors... anything else tasty it may have, parking sensors, cruise control etc.

    Best of luck.

There is a simple reason no one has come to view your car IMO,

It's over priced, if I was in your shoes I'd just cut my losses and be done with it, it's going to be harder to sell it without an NCT, 5 months ago you should have dropped your price to 1200/1300 you 'probably' would have sold it a few days,

Just remember it's a buyer's market out there

    your Ad is fine IMO

Drop your price and it will sell.

Do not consider a career in sales :)

when I see ad's with spelling mistakes, I normally discount the car immediately. I take it your foreign OP, so not that bad, but replace passangar with passenger and has the owner already left the country? also take better photos, including ones from the front of the car.

Yes I know but at the end of the day it's price that dictates sale,

There is a lot worse Ads on donedeal :D

The car is worth 1800 imo the market is just very limited tbh

Yes I know, that's it, but getting 1800 for it can be a different story though,

When ever I am selling any car I have, I just drop the price, it's hard to beat a quick sale :)

Car is a decent spec (decent engine too but not very desirable on Irish market) and looks fairly clean with decent milage for a 10 year old car. Either you hold out for abit more with the revamped advertisement as told above or cut your losses.

you don't need tax for an NCT.

Hard to think that 3 years road tax would buy that car.

I agree that the car and ad. need tidying up. It may also (it being mid August) be too late in the year to sell a convertible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,148 ✭✭✭orchidsrpretty

Thank you so much everybody for all the replies. Will take it all on board, and try get this sold. A cyber drink for all when/if it does!

I blame the cráp weather tbh. Who would want a convertible in this country?

If we had a fine summer, and the car was NCT'd it would be sold. Maybe at a few hundred quid less.

The car doesn't need to be taxed for an NCT test. Madness trying to sell a car with no NCT.

Yeah and I am not the only to have mentioned this. The one you showed is in a garage and I am sure they also will have it sat there for a while at that price.

I'm actually looking to buy one of these, but tbh most people like myself considering one are looking for the 1.6 litre model. Also, I wouldn't buy one without an NCT as my own car recently failed and I know what a nightmare they can be to fix up.
