Moving home in few weeks and dont really want to sign up to UPC etc

Irish channels + BBC. ITV, Sky news, Sky 1 etc are fine for us..

Is there a way I can use saorview plus a satellite box/dish to provide me with free TV?
If so whats my best option?

You won't get Sky 1 for free. The only free Sky channels are Sky News & Pick TV (used to be Sky 3).

Humax HD Freesat Box (Google) for all GB Channels and 5 High Definition channels - all free after you have it installed.

Buy a Saorview box for the Irish ones.

This Ferguson Ariva 150 will do both for you in one box with remote control and one channel list. it also plays AVI and MKV films dierectly through the usb port and has youtube functionality.

    Satellite.ie(€98.49) or Satworld (€98.49)

    silly question now...

I understand that you get saorview via an aerial (installed on roof presumably?) but how is the signal for the Uk channels delivered??

Lads i couldnt get rte through an aerial before, Im located in a valley. Im currently getting the free to air channels through a satellite. Can i get the saorview channels using this satellite or does an aerial have to be errected-and have i a better chance of getting rte through this aerial as i did before?

If you have a tv that can receive saorview, your best bet would be to get a FreesatHD box and dish,

Freesat had a structured menu system and a 7 day EPG, and most importantly it retunes and updates itself
It also has the red button service and digital text,

When was the last time you tried an aerial & was it a professional attempt or at least a decent outdoor aerial if you tried yourself?

Take a look at the Saorview coverage map, you can drag the marker to your exact location. It's not guaranteed 100% accurate, but should provide some indication of what to expect.

If you don't have terrestrial coverage, you can use Saorsat, but you'd need a different dish setup to what you currently use, either a 2nd dish (at least 80cm) for Saorsat or a single large dish (possibly 90 - 100cm) with 2 lnbs to get Saorsat & the UK channels.

If you're within range of a UK terrestrial transmitter (best bet in border areas or south east), you can also receive the UK channels via an aerial.

But since you mentioned not wanting to "sign up to UPC", you're probably not moving to one of those areas ...

Nice 1, this is the equivalent of the Freesat Humax Hd box, which costs much more than €100.00, plus has Saorview built in ?????

So if I change my old Technomate box on a Sony 32 I have with an MPEG2 tuner built in, for one of these above I'll have all the freesat channels in HD with Saorview ?

Sounds great value for under €100.00

Not quite as the humax has two satellite tuners and a built in hard drive so really a different product altogether.

Not true, that's a Humax Freesat HD PVR you are referring to. Regular Humax HD Freesat box is single tuner and has no recording capability - as I have one :).

Seems like that box STB refered to is VERY cheap to get Freesat HD and Saorview all in one

Via Satellite dish and Freesat or Freeview box OR Sky or UPC.

Saorview aerials can be installed on the roof or in an attic.

Via Satellite dish and Freesat or Freeview box . . .

Freeview is the brandname of the UK terrestrial service. A Freeview box won't work with a dish.

Generic (non-Freesat) satellite receivers are usually referred to as free-to-air (FTA) receivers.

Hi Tony. was on your website having a look at those arivas.are you getting them back in stock anytime soon?. do you just unplug the sky dish from the back of the sky box and plug it in to the new box or do you need to re adjust the dish

Sorry I cannot answer the first question here as commercial interaction is not allowed.

Free to air and freesat boxes use the same satellite group as sky so if your dish is working ok you should be able to just plug in . Bear in mind you also need an aerial for the RTE digital channels

Not quite - looks like only Now and Next EPG, as its not a Freesat Box

Yes. What you wont get is the 7 day epg on satellite, just now and next epg data. 7 Day epg for the Saorview part. But it is in a combined channel list of both and so is a cheap option of having both HD satellite channels and Saorview channels on one box in one remote.

Freesat products like Humax etc do not receive Saorview.

is there any box that has the 7 day epg for both the saorview and freesat as well as the usb playback?
