Silly question about speaker cable!

    Hi,

    I have this micro system:

    http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/42/202/227/X-HM20-K/index.html

and I used a pair of celestron speakers instead of the ones that came with it.
Now I'm thinking of hooking up the original speakers as well because it's a large L shaped room and I'd like the sound to be heard at the end of it. The cable has bare wires at the end that just pop into the back of the system (don't know the technical name for it :o) and I'm wondering if I can have two lots of cable wire hooked up to the same point or will it screw up the sound? If it's ok to do this where's the best place in Dublin to get cable?

Your amp is rated at 4 ohms. To do what you are asking, you need 2 sets of speakers which are rated at 8 ohms (2 x 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel, which is what they will be if both plugged into the same connectors, = 4 ohms) if you do this you will have no degradation in sound. If you hook up speakers lower than 8 ohms then you could possibly damage the amp in the system.

There are other ways to get round this but it involves wiring the speakers in series which is probably not going to be convenient for you.

Right....so once my speakers are 8 ohms and above, it's ok to plug them both into the amp together? :o
