    Hi,

Is anyone aware of any legislation in relation to:

    • Contract staff managing permanent staff i.e. a contract staff member in a position of authority over permanent full-time staff members.

    Is this normal?

I don't really follow, are you asking is someone who is on a temporary contract able to be in charge of permanent employees? If so, the answer is yes of course. The length of your contract doesn't really mean anything as you're all there to get the job done.

Totally normal, I report into a contractor.

I also agree it is normal. I've been managed by a contractor in the past.

It sounds like you want to stir ****; my advice: don't! Take a deep breath and remember it is just a job. It does not define you and it only something you do for money.

    Hi,
Thank you. I just wasn't sure what was the situation with contract staff mananging permanent staff. Understood now and I have no problem with that.

The issue I have is, I simply despise cronyism. In this case, the job was never advertised internally, well only until someone complained about it.

If you work for the government you can do something about this, but if it's a private company you just gotta accept it and move on...

Sometime jobs are not posted internally because at a management level the pool of candidates is known and they know that the job will not be offered internally. This avoids having to refuse to interview or waste time interviewing internal candidates that the management team know that this will not offer a job to.
