Statement:
In response to the many calls, messages and e-mails that I have received regarding the Ireland Players’ Championship I wish to make the following statement - - -

The Ireland Players’ Championship {I.P.C.} is not associated in any way with the new competition, Irish Darts Championship {I.D.C.}, which was announced recently.

Also, the Facebook pages entitled Irish Darts Championship and Ireland Darts Championship are not connected to either myself or the I.P.C.

The 2013 Ireland Players’ Championship was scheduled to commence on Sunday, November 4th., 2012, at the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh but, unfortunately, this has been postponed as the date and venue are being used for a round of the new competition.

Mount Wolseley Hotel in Carlow was booked for Round Two but this hotel was cancelled.

The finals of the new competition have been arranged for the fourth Sunday in June, which has traditionally been the date for the Grand Finals of the I.P.C.

It is my opinion, and the opinion of many people involved in the sport of darts in Ireland, that this new competition is a blatant attempt to upstage the Ireland Players’ Championship which has been one of the most successful darts events on the Irish Calendar in recent years.

The I.P.C. was founded in 2005 and over the past seven years more than fifty great weekends have been organised with up to two hundred players competing at some of the rounds.

ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR 2013 CHAMPIONSHIPS !

After much debate and re-organisation the schedule for the 2013 Ireland Darts Players’ Championship has now been finalised and, hopefully, it will receive the support that it enjoyed from the Irish darts players over the past seven years.
In compiling the schedule for the qualifying rounds we have been very conscious of the increasing number of competitions on the Irish darts calendar and the financial burden on the darts players to compete in these events.
Therefore, it has been decided that the 2013 Ireland Players’ Championship shall be aligned to six designated existing events at no extra cost to the players.
Players will only be required to compete in and abide by the rules of these competitions.
Rankings points will be awarded to the players for progression in these events and a new I.P.C. Order of Merit will be established.
The top players on the Order of Merit will be invited to compete in the Grand Finals.
A full set of rules will be published shortly.

Congratulations to Sharon O'Brien who notched up her third victory in the 2013 Ireland Ladies' Championship when she won the Ladies' Open Singles at the George Byrne Memorial Tournament at the Good Counsel GAA Club in Dublin. 42 ladies competed on the day.
Sharon now enjoys an unassailable position at the top of the I.P.C. Ladies' Order of Merit with one round to go.

The Grand Finals of the 2013 Ireland Players' Championships will be held on
Sunday, May 26th., 2013, at the Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney, Co. Kerry, in
conjunction with the inaugural Grand Slam Irish Darts Festival.

Invitations have been sent to all of the qualifiers and the Acceptance Forms
should be completed and returned with the appropriate entry fees not later
than May 6th.

There will be an Open Doubles competition at the Gleneagle Hotel on the
Friday night with entries being accepted from 7.00pm on the night.

The Gleneagle Men's, Ladies' and Youths' Open Singles will be held at the
Hotel on Saturday, May 25th., starting at 12noon Sharp.
