    Hi,

we are down in Baltimore for summer holidays (in the rain)

Anyway, my wife's Ford Galaxy, 2005, with VW Tdi AUY engine is down on power.

When first running you get full power for a short time and then it seems to go into some sort of default mode and runs totally flat after that.

This evening in the rain it seemed to give full power for longer.

Can anybody recommend a good local guy to diagnose this well, without breaking the bank? Would prefer somebody who won't just sugggest changing things.

The MAF has been changed recently but this has not had an effect and was probably due anyway as the car has 183,000 km on it.

    Thanks,

    Richard

    Can't recommend anyone closer unfortunately.

Someone in the local pubs will though no doubt.

Had the sAme prob with a passat recently. There's a valve on the front of the engine with a few vac pipes going into it one goes to the turbo actuater ,check the pipes are not loose or perished. Most likely your cause but could well be lots of things but the symptoms are bang on what I observed on the car.

    Thanks guys,

    sorry for delay in replying.

Took Darragh's post as an encouragement and searched along the tubing that I could see. Access is very difficult on the Galaxy as engine is really shoe horned in.

Found a chafed pipe just above the rocker cover at the rear. Pipe was running from main inlet up to a valve.

Cadogan Motor Works in Skibbereen fixed it for me for a very modest price as while I could see it I couldn't reach it. Job done in 10 minutes. And a serious amount of money saved in finding the issue myself. Joined the chafed pipe with a small length of copper brake pipe.

What a result! Thanks to all.
