UCD/Student phone plan

    Hi there,

I'll be starting at UCD in September and I was told by a former student that it should be possible to get a 'student phone plan' which should be cheaper than just going with any random phone network.

He told me to look on the UCD website and that there should be more info there. I've spent the last half an hour looking and can't find anything even mentioning it. I did find the 02 Mobile Broadband offer on the IT services part of the site but that is not what I'm looking for.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or just explain wether this plan exists or not?

It could be possible he meant a prepaid student deal and he explained it badly but I'd really prefer a 18-24 month plan.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only one I can think of is the 02 broadband deal, but if you can hold out until Sept there will be a 02 stand in the college either during orientation week or freshers week.

Meteor & O2 do deals on internet. I don't know of them doing phone plan deals for students. The only thing I do know of, is this new 48months. It's for 18-22 year olds, €10 a months for free calls & texts to all networks. It's a great deal, but I don't actually know anyone who has signed up with them and how good they are. I never like signing up with these new places until I've heard some feedback about them.

Forgot about the 48 month group. They'll probably be set up in UCD too. I remember seeing them a few times during the year.

48 are just O2 under a different name, they're all on the Telefonica network. They have no actual physical shops which I wouldn't be mad keen on personally, companies with no physical location you can visit never sit well with me for some reason.

    Thanks a lot guys.

I'll probably wait 'till freshers week and see what they have going on at the stands. Otherwise I might do the 20 euro Meteor deal.

with 48 at the minute! (despite being 22 sssh ;) ) its a tenner for unlimted calls and texts, and 20 if you want unlimited data as well!

Have to say theyve been epic, got my phone stolen twice since I joined and both times they shipped a new sim out straight away!! would defo recommend anyone to join them!

Just beware tho, if you have a blackberry you cant get data on it as they have no deal set up with RIM otherwise its stella!!

    Hi there,

I was contemplating on getting the tesco promotional offer (http://www.tescomobile.ie/half-price-unlimited-promotion.aspx) until I saw the posts about 48.

The VIP plan with 48 gives 3gb of data/month and I was wondering if this would be enough for moderate daily use. (Facebook, email, skype)

I have 1GB with meteor and have only gone over it when I tethered the internet connection to my laptop. 3 gigs is loads.
