I am sitting my driving test next Saturday in Kilkenny. Very nervous it's my first time. I am driving over a year. I am a confident enough driver but hope that stays on the day of the test . So any advice do and donts would be greatly appreciated. Any major mistakes I should a avoid making. I really want to pass. But I am not cocky and have to be prepared for either result. Thanks in advance for the help.

The first bit of advice I would give is to realise that you will make mistakes on the day of the test, after all we're human. It's how you handle your mistakes that is key. If you do pick up a fault try not to dwell on it or it may lead to further faults and then you'll get the snowball effect.

Remember you can pick up a number of faults and still pass your driving test. For example you can pick up 8 grade 2 (serious) faults spread across your test sheet and still pass your test. So if (when) you do pick up a fault, don't panic, just think to yourself "ok that's 1, I'm allowed another 7 grade 2 faults!". Bit of psychology I picked up along the way:D

If you do pick up a fault make sure you don't repeat it. Has your driving instructor explained to you on your test sheet is marked? For example you can have numerous grade 1 faults and pass, you can have 8 grade 2 faults and pass (although you cannot have more than 5 grade 2 faults in any one category or 4 grade 2 faults for any one sub skill within any category)

I'm sure you'll get plenty more excellent advice here, best of luck with your driving test

    Thanks,
    Padraic

Another handy tip is on the days leading up to the test (if you have access to a car your're insured to drive in and have a qualified driver beside you) get your qualified driver to sit silent for 45 mins in the passenger seat and to only speak to give you directions eg "Could you take the next available turning on the left please".
This can be an off putting and surreal experience for anyone to have someone you dont know sit beside you in a car and just give directions.
If you have a lesson before your test ask your instructor to do this.

Passed first time absolutely delighted. Only got 3 grade 2s and 1 grade 1. It's great to have it out of the way. Thank you all on boards for the advice.
