How close is bicycle ranks to the campus?
Also, how safe is it to leave an expensive bike there?

    Thanks,
    Karl.

There is a bicycle rank in front of Arts, Callan (being built in front of Phoenix), Phoenix, beside Iontas, over at Science Building, at SU.
So loads all over campus! You will need a good lock and don't leave it there for too long (i.e. extended periods of time)

Has there been bikes robbed from campus?

Only if they are left unlocked!

Mine was robbed, but I did leave it for about two months (genuinely 100% completely forgot about it) and it was locked to a tree, so it wasn't the most fool proof. I don't think there are many robbed, it's not something that really happens. I may be wrong about this but I doubt it!

Two months? are you sure you didn;t just go back to the wrong tree? :P
Yeah I get you, I'll have some very good locks, (three to be exact) just a bit nervous, my old bike was robbed in the Dublin City Centre.

Could've been worse though. Could've been a car or motorbike

This is a very good point!

I keep my bike beside Iontas, it's fairly expensive but I've a good motorbike lock on it. Remember the saddle and replace quick release with nuts, should be fine once you take it at the end of the day.

I've a few friends who cycled to and from college during the year and never an incident, and depending on where I will be living this year actually plan on cycling myself. So like Kellie and Jp said, have a lock, and don't leave it for long periods of time and you should be fine.
Maynooth is a lot safer than Dublin City. Also, if you are really worried, the bike rank outside the arts block is just in front of the security office window, so I reckon if you are reeeeeealy worried there is one of the safest places :P

Thanks for all the reply people, put my mind at ease! I'll be taking it back every night so hopefully no incident. :)

I personally wouldn't leave an expensive bike on campus, I had a 2k+ Dh bike that stayed in my room until I was using it and an old beater road bike that I never locked up, it looked so crap it was never touched all year.

My only other bike is a pretty lame 200 quid girls mountain bike, (I'm a bloke as you can guess) Never make the in and around 60km trek everyday on that. :)

Ah you're cycling a distance, I was only cycling 5 minutes so big difference. I'd say racks in front of the arts block then. Or maybe lock it to a lampost in front of JH. (Although I'm not sure if this is allowed, I've seen bikes locked here and its easily the most populated part of north campus.

I'd lock it outside iontas or the science building, the cctv that covers the atm should probably cover the bike rack too (anyone know this for certain?).

I had my bike stolen from rack in front of the SU. I seen it happen and everything, I ran over to the guy as he was carrying it away with the bolt cutters in his hand, middle of the day in plain sight, I shouted to get him to stop, he turns round and it's BILL FRUCKING MURRAY! I swear on all that I hold scared if it wasnt him it was a professional lookalike, he just smiles and says "the best part is, No one will ever believe you" and off he walked. I was completely dumbstruck couldnt even form a sentence much less follow him.

Bikes are generally very safe provided they have a good lock, aren't left longer than a day and Bill Murray isn't about campus.

****ing Bill Murray coming back to play havoc with the Maynooth crowd. :P

Had anyone ever used the Bike lockers at the train station?
