Suggestions for cheap travel guitar

I'm going to be way from home at least one night a week with the new job so was thinking of getting a cheap acoustic travel guitar. The Martin Backpacker seems to get bad reviews, the Washburn Rover looks a better buy. However, I saw a Harley Benton travel acoustic for €69 on the Thomann website which looks like a ripoff of the Washburn guitar. I don't want to spend much on a guitar thats going to get thrown into the boot of a car and occasionally used, but are the Harley Benton products any good?

HB is Thoman's own brand. the instruments amps etc are made in the same factories in China etc as everyone elses own brand stuff. therefore they are as good or bad as anything else in that price bracket.

as a wild off the wall suggestion, if you're staying in hotels etc, then maybe consider a silent guitar.....

Yamaha started the idea, but there are a few budget makers too.......

I had a Sojing like this (only blue)

    56758-1.jpg

    cost £80 off ebay.

through headphones it was SUUUUU PERB!!!!!!

and of course silent to anyone more than about 5 yards away.

now because I can, I switched the nut & saddle for bone which improved the tone slightly and the intonation (a lot!) but a pal whos a semi pro acoustic player gave it a run through a Marshall AS50R acoustic amp and he was well impressed.

search ebay for Skeleton, silent, skylark or sojing

Oh yeah, the Martin Backpacker is great if you are a backpacker, or an astronaught. if you want something that sounds like a guitar....... you'll be disappointed!

Have to say that I didn't even consider one of those. I assumed they were the same size as a regular acoustic. I'll check out whats available on ebay and see what size they are, guess the surround section of the body could be removed. Boot in the car is small and there isn't much room with the other stuff in it.
