Decent enough card at the Curragh tomorrow so I decided to start a thread on it.

For me the race of the day is Keeneland Royal Whip Stakes (Group 2) with Famous Name taking on Born To Sea. We all know exactly what Famous Name can do, the question is whether Born To Sea has the improvement required to beat Famous Name. Granted there probably isn't much improvement required but Born To Sea has proved costly to follow. What are people's opinions on this match up?

For me the other interesting question is whether Cristoforo Colombo will win the Phoenix Stakes as easy as the betting suggests. He's plenty short and you'd wonder if he'll have improved enough to reverse the form with Probably.

    Opinions and tips.....

StarSpangledBanner is the one I'm really looking forward too seeing. Former top class sprinter returning after 23 months due to a failed stud career

It's a pity the Royal Whip has so few runners, I'd imagine Born To Sea would like a strong pace as he always seems to come with a late burst. I was very impressed with his Irish Derby second, Murtagh looked like he believed he had a horse under him who could get competitive with Camelot and he did it for a bit. So I'd say Born To Sea will do it.

I have a slight fancy for Wexford Opera in the Phoenix Stakes, Bolger hinted after Dawn Approaches Coventry win that he might have a few equally good ones at home. Maybe Wexford Opera is one of them although he has to improve a fair bit from his debut 2nd to Pedro The Great. There's a few nice colts in the race and I've a feeling that Cristofori Colombo is a bit short in the betting on what he's actually achieved so far.

It's hard to see Famous Name conceding so much weight to Born To Sea, will be interesting enough though as it should give a bit more substance to Camelot's form should BTS trounce Famous Name who is a pretty decent animal despite never winning at the top level.

The Phoenix Stakes is a tricky one but Probably at the prices is much better value over Cristoforo Colombo considering they are racing off the same weight and there were no excuses really from the last day.

Going through the card i'd go with this even though i won't be backing anything tomorro:
    2.20 Starbright
    2.50 Born To Sea
    3.20 Harasiya
    3.50 Probably
    4.20 Definightly
    4.50 Dash Back
    5.20 Coin of Courage

So avoid them at all costs:D

I'm looking forward to seeing this, hasn't been anything for a few weeks at the weekends that interested me hugely.

I reckon 10f might well bring out the very best in Born to Sea, the good to yielding is also no negative, that's evident from previous runs.

Famous Name seems to be in great form but has to be vulnerable carrying 9 lbs more.

As a betting event it seems to be between the two of them so whichever one anyone fancies isn't too bad value but I don't really have a preference :o

I'd never back a horse at that sort of price when it was beaten almost two lengths lto by a horse going against it again on the same terms (trip and weight etc). Especially when lto wasn't first time out.

I reckon Probably will be running strongly at the finish, not quite sure if Cristoforo Colombo will be a stride or two ahead or behind but I think Cristoforo Colombo won't be going as fast at the time anyway :pac:

RP ratings have BTS ahead of Famous Name receiving the 9lbs

One thing I'd say about O'Brien's in the Phoenix is that I'd say the Henrythenavigator's will surely improve as the ground does but he's very short IMO. Wexford Opera was backed last night

If I could evens about Harasiya I'd be very interested.

    My selections today would be:

    2.20 Starbright 7/4

Favourites have a decent record in this race and Kevin Prendergast has had 2 od the last 4 winners. Based on the morning prices and jockey bookings Fasincate seems to be the best of the Ballydoyle bounce. You can probably forgive Fascinate her last run on the basis that the ground was heavy, it was her first time out and the trip was probably too short for her. Both hold entries in the Moyglare. I think the step back up to 7f will help Starbright and I think she'll be good enough to get off the mark today.

    2.50 Born To Sea 1/1

I'd love to see Famous Name win this. Famous Name has proved a profitable horse for me to follow. However, I think the weight may prove the difference between Famous Name and Born To Sea today. I doubt I'll be having a bet in this race and if I do I'll probably end up going with my heart and back Famous Name!

    3.20 Harasiya 8/13

    For me Harasiya wins this.

    3.50 Probably 3/1

I can't understand the price variance between Cristoforo Colombo and Probably, especially with rain forecast. Again probably not a race I'll be having a bet in.

    4.20 Fire Lily 10/3
    4.50 No selection
    5.20 Golden Shoe 7/1

I'm surprised by Harasiya, I really thought it would be an easy enough win. Really lets my yankee down!

The shorter trip didn't do him any good I'd say.

How much did he lose by.

    1/2 length or less.

That was the same trip today as before, she was beaten a neck.

Great start for Pat Shanahan in his training career

Overall not a bad day but I'm disappointed with my yankee and also the stupid single bet I put on Dubh Go Leir.
