A3 National Champs

I have a quick question about the A3 National Championships, taking place in Dundalk on Sunday 19 August. The organising club's website says that you have to have a 'senior' designation on your licence to take part. Although I am an A3, my licence has a 'VET' designation, which enabled me take part in the vet's race at the national champs earlier in the year. I presume this disqualifies me from taking part in this race?

The answer seems obvious enough but I just wanted to double check before hanging up my cleats for the year.

Vet designation on licence entitles you to ride the National Veteran Championships but disallows you from riding the A3 Senior Championships.
These are a replacement for the previous National B Championships.

In short, you can hang up your cleats.

I assume having the 'espoir' designation on your licence also disqualifies you from this race?

No Espoir just designates U23, it'll say senior beside your licence number on the bottom left of your licence.

Bottom line is its for all A3s between 19 and 39.Looked at circuit during the week and its a real nice circuit.A figure of eight type of circuit which is not as easy as it appears at first.A real tight 120 deg turn about 500 mtrs after the start which leads on to a hill.Could cause a lot of bother for many.

I think you can be 40-ish and have the senior designation on your licence which would allow you do this race but not the vets champs.

What we tried to do was stop riders having multiple national championships. in the past I could have done the vets and B champs so you cant anymore.

As far as i can make out there are 114 entered between the jun race and A3 race at the moment.Id say about 40 juns max so about 74 A3s.Entries dont close until tonight so id say more to come.Dont know about start list though. Its a festival weekend in Blackrock so if its a good day id say there will be a good atmosphere.A real nice figure of eight type of circuit, with a 120 deg junction to keep everybody on their toes.

As long as you're an A3 rider. I'm still an A4 vet so can't ride national vets :(

A4 category is deemed a ''non championship category'' by Cycling Ireland.

ok, I know this is off thread, but on my A3 Licence it says "UCI CAT:ELITE" I've been told you can ride the Rás if you have an "A3 ELITE" Licence... why is this? I thought you had to be A2 & above.

the uci describes anybody over 23 as an elite. under is espoir etc. The designation veteran is an Irish one the UCI use Master which is over 30 it think.
I think Elite might be all you need to ride the Ras, now the promoter mighnt accept anybody below A2.

As regards no championship for A4's as you all know the idea behind A4 was to give people an easy introduction to the sport. Once you did a season in the A4 then the thought was that you were upgraded the next year. The category has become as competitive as others and maybe we should bring in an A5!!!!

Good luck to everyone riding the championships today.80 plus riders so a good field. Also great to see about 40 in the Jun R/R Champs which is way up on where we've been for the past while.

great ride. I tipped Nigle Forde before hand and he got a bronze so he was chuffed.

I followed the juniors in the CI car and it was a great race. Mullena nd Fallon were extremely strong but what was great was the lads in the bunch working very hard and being really well organised to chase them down. 41 Juniors was a good field.

I think the bit of heat on the pale white skin played a part.

    Well done again
