Ok picking up my Rapid 4 bike on Tuesday & going to cycle it home from Howth to home close to Artane.

For a first timer was looking at cycles to Swords,Malahide & portmarnock see how they go then look at Skerries & Rush.

Have not cycled in over 10 years & doing it to keep fit.

Any advice I can use as want to pace myself not massively fit kinda inbetween

What should I start with in terms of miles?

    Thanks

I'm using this to get me up to decent spins.
    Working so far.

Get a speedo, and aim to stay above a comortable cruising speed, maybe 25kph, when you're on the flat and don't push yourself too hard on the hills, and, obviously, go kamakazee on the downhill :D.

Do you have any way to record your distance? If not a GPS, maybe an Android phone that you could use with Strava. Nothing like seeing your first 100/500/1000 miles/kilometres.

Get padded cycling shorts even to wear under a track suit, your bum will be the main, time limiting , factor when starting off, padding is like a second saddle .:D

my advise is to forget about recording your trips for the moment
just go out and enjoy it first
pick a destination close by and cycle to it
look around when travelling, take in the scenery, stop when you arrive and take a breather and drink
    return home and relax
    dont set goals too early
get out regular and go a little further each time
if you can find a cycle buddy it will help too
join a local club when you feel you are ready(not essential but will really pass the miles)

    remember,enjoy the bike

    Thanks

What is the Strava app? I am on a PAYG phone so do you need to have the internet on for it to work may have a look at this.

I think I will try to enjoy it as first take it all in and see how it goes.

Will then have a look at maybe getting some padding and some gloves etc

As for RVP watch this space....no man bigger than the team:D

    Cheers
