Had a look to see if there was a Q&A thread for advice.. didnt see one.. If there is then please feel free to move my post.

I was just wondering, I'm not an avid cyclist like most of you here are so was wondering if you could be of help.

I usually replace my own brake pads/tubes etc when needed but one day in a rush with a puncture I left my bike into a nearby bike shop to get it repaired and also asked him to change the rear brake pads as I didn't have the time or tools on me to do it..

Instead of placing the brake pads with the same one (which was a one piece unit that mounted directly to the brake lever) he replaced it with a 2 unit brake pad is all I can describe it. You can replace the compound itself without replacing the mounting part but undoing a tiny tiny screw.. kinda like changing a cartridge if you like.

He did it super cheap coz he knew its not what I asked for as he had run out of the original type so I was happy out.. He didn't really tell me much about the brake pads anyway.

But what I am wanting to know is that if I buy a replacement brake pad to try fit in it.. are they all a one fit size that will just slide in and work grand? There is no branding on the brake to try match it up but it looks pretty basic..

TL;DR Does any brake replacement cartridge fit any brake mount?
