On holidays, friend has just texted me saying my car was clamped on my road(out of date residence parking disk totally forgot :( ) Am I safe to just leave it til I get home in 2.5 weeks or do i need to sort out a new disk and unclamping etc ASAP?

Council clampers or NCPS or other such outfit? Public or private road?

Council boys will lift it fairly sharpish. NCPS won't bother and will most likely remove the clamp when the victim does not come forward quickly. ;)

Well it won't be stolen anyway....look on the bright side!

Ah no seriously. Is it a private company or council? If it's council then other be towed but if it's private then it won't be.

My mate works for NCPS. He said if the clamp is left on a car for more than 3 days they will just remove it.

Indeed. I have heard that many times before.

Why did you mention the "out of date residence parking disk"?

    Do you have tax?
Are you on a yellow or double yellow?
Is there a parking restriction at certain times or paid parking?

If NCPS or other private clampers towed the car it would surely be counted as theft....?

    Yes. Hence they don't dare.

I thought NCP a charge per day so when you get home there will be a huge bill waiting for you

Get your friend to pay the illegal parking charge and move the car

sorry bad explanation on my part! I live on a road which has pay and display parking 7am-7pm monday to friday as a resident i have a special residence disk which is valid for a year and which i think has now expired meaning I would need to get a pay and display ticket like everyone else and obviously didn't as i'm in spain!

Sounds like the council then.I'd see if someone can get it sorted for you.

Agreed, sounds like its the council. I would get someone to pay ASAP if it is definitely the council. Even if you get the clamp removed and the car moved they will chase up the fine and it will be worse for removing the clamp.

If its not the council then let it sit.

There should be a stick on bag on the window with info.

One thing, if you buy another resident disc when you come back will it be backdated? Might be worth doing that rather than pay the fine.

A car parked beside me was clamped by NCPS and clamp was still there 10 days later. I doubt that they were in any sort of dispute as they had spent the previous week squatting in different spaces;I imagine they had no permission to be there in the first place.

I would imagine that their stance is that a clamp left on a car for more than a couple of days is actually costing them money as it is not extoring money from someone who might actually pay. Id say its very unusual for them to leave a clamp on a car for 10 days at a time unless they have forgotten about it or something.
