    Hi,
Im looking at buying a tdi caddy 08 reg on english plates. It has 2 factory fitted seats in the rear with factory fitted belts. This is not a caddy life, it is just a standard caddy with the two extra seats in the back.
Will this be a commercial and have commercial tax like a standard caddy.
Also will the VRT be just 200 euro.
    Thanks in advance

Does it have windows in the back and a bulkhead behind the rear seats?

Either way I don't think it will qualify as the loadspace is too small.

It has the standard back windows in the rear doors but no bulkhead behind the seats. I could take out the seats if not, How would vrt work on this

Even without seats it will have the same VRT as a car based on emissions.

Might be classed as a Cat B vehicle, and would be subject to 13.3% of OMSP, but if they classed it as Cat A (as it has seats in the back) then would be based on emissions. Would have to be over 3.5T to get 200e VRT rate.

I was told a caddy would get the 200 euro vrt rate??

Apologies, I was on another "thought" line :o

VRT will not be commercial rate though, IMO

VRT will be 13.3% if you're lucky.

It is a normal caddy with commercial tax up north. It is a standard caddy with just two seats in the back

Great, but if you only need 2 seats, why not buy one with 2 seats. Revenue aren't stupid, lads have been pulling stunts with jeeps putting seats back in etc. for years. Register that van down here as a 2 seater and it's no different.

You haven't a hope of Reging it as a crewcab. Are they actually factory fitted seats, or just seats from a caddy life bolted in?

My brother brought in a crew cab, tipper Transit late last year, and after months of arguing, and seizing it - TWICE - they refused to allow it commercial VRT. Got done for €1600 instead if €200. And that was a tipper, for a legit paving business.

    You haven't a hope, unfortunately.

    Hi folks,
Didn’t want to start a new thread. Resurrecting a related topic instead. I’m hoping someone might be able to help.

Would there be VRT due on a caddy maxi (Irish reg’d) following conversion from a 2 seater to a 5 seater? (I’m wondering is the vrt on day 1 different for a 2 seater and 5 seater and if the balance between the two {if there is one} is payable after conversion?)

    Thanks for any help.

You won’t be able to classify it as a crewcab now as far as I know

Not even sure if you can classify it as a regular car either.

VRT paid as a van would only have been €200.

Thanks for the reply. There does exist a factory built caddy 5 seater though, the Caddy Kombi, so a 5 seater would have to land on the vrt spectrum somewhere to be reg’d coming out of the factory?

A new or used crewcab (as in a 5 seat van with separate load area which is classified as a commercial vehicle) now must have been factory built from day 1 to be registered as a crewcab.

Now, if it’s a car and not a crewcab, things may be different. You can tax a van privately (cc rates and not CO2 rates apply, regardless of year in this case) but I’m not sure that the vehicle could actually be re-registered as a passenger car, if it could then you’d be paying the regular VRT for such a car minus the €200 already paid.

Then you get into insurance, it’s still a van that was modified to be a car rather than a factory job, and this is likely to cause issues.
