Sticky accelerator pedal

Been having a problem for a couple of weeks where the accelerator sticks under gentle or medium pressure. If I stamp it, it will move but means I have to be pretty fast on the brakes when moving off in traffic :D . Got it checked out and the linkage and throttle body oiled today, but still have the same problem. Also got rid of the mat in the driver's footwell to confirm that wasn't causing any issues. I think the problem lies with the pedal itself, rather than somewhere else down the line if that makes sense. Will bring it back to the garage as soon as I can, but any ideas what to do in the meantime?
