Laptop freezing

    Hi everyone,

    I was just wondering if anyone here can help. Every time my screensaver comes on, my laptop locks up and I can move the mouse but do nothing else. Even if I turn the screensaver off, this will happen. I've tried various clean up measures which have done nothing and the same problem repeats itself when I do a disk fragment. I know nothing about laptops so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    Download MalwareBytes and install it. Update it and run it. Quick Scan should be okay. Follow the instructions when it is finished, if it found anything.

    Also check what programs are running at Startup. Update all your drivers and Windows updates.

    Do you know what version of windows you have?

    Download CCleaner and install it and run it. On the left hand side go to "Tools" and then "Startup".

    On the Bottom Right hand side it says "Save to text file" - Hit that button.

    Post the text file here.

    Disable all of these from starting up, and restart. They'll still be on the PC, they just won't start with it.

    Also uninstall ZoneAlarm using CCleaner -> Tools -> Uninstall

    It may be only temporarily. You have a lot of security on it, and the same type of programs running at the same time, generally don't like each other.

    If you're not paying for ESET, remove it and download MSE (Don't install it yet)

    ~ Do you use Checkpoint?


    After you restart and post the list, run CCleaner again, This time go to "Registry" -> Scan For Issues -> Fix Checked.

    I never Keep a back up log, but that's entirely up to you.

    The only 2 things that should start up are your O/S and Anti virus, you should delete everything else from starting up in C cleaner.

    The Items in Bold, should say yes. So re-enable them for now anyway, some of them are Lenovo's own software, which isn't needed, but okay for now.

    Disable the top item in the list in Red.

    So, Re-enable

    2, 4, 15, 16, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 30, 31, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 43, 44

    and number 1 should be disabled

    Checkpoint is on your PC, so maybe remove that too. Are you paying for ESET?

    When you've done all that, Delete all the Disabled items from the list, then Post the new list, and disable a few more. (I'll show you which ones), But these ones will stay on the list for different reasons.

    After that, Restart the PC.

    Do another CCleaner registry Clean (after uninstalling those three programs)

    Download Defraggler (not vital, it just puts your bits and bytes in order, so your computer can find them faster, and run them. - Like a Librarian having all the books categorised and in order ;) ) and run it.

    Install MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials)

    There is some other small tweaks and cleans you can do, but that, Hopefully is the end of your problems..
