    Hi All,

I recently passed my driving test in Churchtown, but i'm still a little bit nervous on a few things. Had been driving a good bit by myself before i went on for the test, but only around my home town and a little bit beyond, where i knew the roads really well.

The thing is i'm still a little nervous driving to places i dont know too well, parking and parrallel parking and motorway driving, I've driven on the motorway a few times, find it a little bit tricky merging with other traffic and also keeping up speed, my car is a 1 litre and i always am paranoid that i'm not going fast enough! Any suggestions ? Thanks everyone !

You should be able to get up to 100km/h no bother in a 1litre no bother! Practise makes perfect, drive more on your own.

As for parking, I would suggest finding a quiet place to practise. Even with a couple of cones as markers. Parking is a tricky one to learn, so you could ask a family member for advise or to accompany you to help teach you.

    You'll be grand:)

Well done on passing your test! I think gradually build up driving on your own. Short journey's at first. Just to get used to it more. It help build up your confidence too.

I say plan ahead your journey's, have a look at a map or google map might help before setting off. Practise the motorway driving, maybe do a lesson with an instructor to help you get over the nerves of motorway driving. Practise makes perfect. Building up more experience will help getting to know roads that you don't know. Travel them a few times and you be grand.

The parking takes a bit of practise, I am driving for a couple of years but would find parallel parking difficult. Just takes a bit of time, patience and practise to get it right. Do it in a couple of different places helps build up the practise and experience.

1 litre shouldn't be too bad, I've a 0.9 and I be conscious enough I haven't enough power but it has been driven by other people on a motorway before I started learning to drive in it. I haven't experienced driving on a motorway so cannot advise you on that as I am still a learner and have to do the test again. Might be worth practising on a dual carriage way similar to motorway driving.

Thank you so much for the replys ! I'm gonna try practise the motorway driving at quieter times, and getting the speed up, just one of the first times i was on the dual carriage with my dad, everyone was overtaking me or either driving very close behind me but i was driving the speed limit ! and my Dad was telling me i was going fast enough ! Anyway i'm just gonna keep practising ! My car is quite small a Saxo, so its not too hard getting in to spaces but its always the most nerve wrecking part of the journey, just getting the angle right and turning the wheel at the right time ! Anyway gonna keep driving as much as i can ! Thanks again

Take a look at this for the parallel parking bit. And practice loads.

Get out on the dual carriageways early on weekend mornings when the traffic is quiet. The more you drive the more confident you will get. Just remember that you can't do an awful lot about other drivers driving too close to you. Unfortunately if you were driving at 150km/h, you may still get some gimp driving on your rear bumper.
