Tech,I do not know anything about these two sets but am like you enquiring about them as I want to upgrade my tv.Like me you would find it useful to chat with the people in the Panasonicstore.ie. On the adding channels part as I own a Panasonic 750 Bluray recorder which is a Freesat box all the Freesat channels load on initial set-up.To the best of my knowledge you cannot add extra channels to it.As the Freesat package is on the Asrta 28E satellite you will need a dish pointing to this sat.I may be wrong but the magority of the other channels on this sat are on the Sly package and you cannot download them as far as I know.TMULL

Interested in one of these myself. After looking at the user manual http://tda.panasonic-europe-service.com/docs/2z5034d32ez3z33a52z656ez706466z23zc057287e530a2ff9aef992b077bbe7b187830868/tsn2/data/EU/TXL42DT50B/OI/872454/TQB0E2279.pdf it does have an 'Other Sat' option if you select the UK as your country or 'Satellite' if Ireland is selected. Although why anyone would select Ireland and lose the freesat epg is beyond me as 'Other Sat & Satellite' appear to be exactly the same and I can live with the Irish terrestrials being in the 800's. Hope to get this working with a Diablo Wifi cam as well so hopefully the power supply issues from previous models will have been sorted out. Currys have it for €1800, anywhere cheaper I wonder?

If I was you I would go for a GT50. Its plasma, but for me (sports and movies fan) plasma still has the best picture quality. GT50 has Freesat too.

You should also look at the Samsung Freesat models (all have UXXU suffixes).
