Well Retro Freaks, not sure if this baby has been talked about, but I am really looking forward to it.

It looks like a lot of time and effort have been put into this project. The controllers look spot on also.

A open sourced Andriod OS, where anyone can upload games and hack the system. Think of all the emulators that we will be able to play :pac: Its also one of the best looking consoles on the market.

I wonder if Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo are worried, as it has huge potential....

    PEACE.....

I seriously doubt it, isn't it basically a souped up smartphone in a console shell? Emulator fodder for sure, but short of the likes of Onlive etc, how the hell is it gonna compete against the big boys?

I am not feeling it at all tbh, it can play Android games which really need a touchscreen interface not a joypad, or you can use onlive which has had sketchy reviews at best. Unsurprisingly onlive has been tarnished with reports of input lag and general lag etc.

I do think it would make a really good Media Box though, XBMC are developing for its launch and it should be able to play anything your PC or NAS can stream to it with ease. Its going to be a cheaper and far more versatile Apple TV.

I can see this working. Fair enough, spec wise, for a $99 console, it wont or cant compete with the big bhoys, but still, I would love to see it doing well. I will be buying one. It eant setting out to match or go up against this compaines anyway.

Lot of games will be free, or for a few $, I can see this being a huge hit. As you know, it dosent take a hugh budget to make a great addictive game :)

Plus, I also believe it will be a great portable media player.

If anything, it might open up the world of Indie & even homebrew stuff...which can only be a good thing.

With an open source console though you have other problems. Want to play such a game? Oh it doesn't work with this version OS I'm running. Oh it's not compatible with such & such software. And then you've multiplayer, a lot of software has to match to be able to link etc

yeah fair point, I love reading retro gamer and one of my fav parts is the Indie game section, some really great games that I cannot play as I dont have a xbox.

    Any decent xbox emulators :)

This isnt necessarily a good thing. Look at all the crap on iOS and Android marketplace. I'd prefer a more filtered and smaller marketplace with better games that cost a few euro.
But don't get me wrong, I'm backing this on kickstarter and I'm looking forward to developing a few bits for it myself.

I' ve always seen at as big phone in a box, hardware wise it ain't no different.
I just can't play games on my nexus/iPad.
To me it just seems the mobile game has spawned a genre of clichéd sh1t.
This console does open the door to a wider base of consumers and also its a given that developers will cater for controllers rather than touch screen swipe crap.
Don't get me wrong, all the free emulators, homebrew scene on android is great but you could buy a sh1t box 100 euro PC to do that and more.

A real opportunity for classic games but it won't happen.
Any game made will be developed with the mindset that if its a hit then it can be ported to mobile droids for $$$.
My optimistic side hopes its a spawning ground for great ports and games by budding developers who get the chance to release unique games to a hopefully big audience for little moneys. An xbla with out paying Mr gates his dues.

It may, in time, prove to be a capable heart for a cab, given it's cheap and an open OS.
Many of the emu's are pretty well developed for the Android system, although MAME lags way behind, using a version that was made for the GP32.
No more modern emus are available either, afaik, not for Android anyways.
I have to then wonder how open this console will be.
But, the likes of my Ramvik may prove useful with an OUYA and a decent monitor doing the work, only question then is can you hook up arcade controls.

Awwwwww never thought of it being an alternative for Mame in a Cab.Good call.

I'm sure some bright spark will create interface for controls.
    Ps whats Ramvik?

There's also the fact they want this modded and hacked to bits.
Every unit is a dev unit so I'd say they would be more than happy to see this end up in a few arcade machines. I'm pretty sure you could hook up a jpac type thing to one of these handy enough once they are out and we can get to hacking them to bits on both the software and hardware fronts.

    Ramvik is CiDeRmAn's man servant.

Ahhh..I always wanted an Egyptian slave.
Dangling grapes in front of your mouth with one hand while wiring up your cabs.
I hope its a bird rather than a sweaty man wearing nought but a loin cloth:)

I worry about you lot sometimes, I really do.

Thankfully most of you are more of a danger to yourselves than to others so we'll observe for now and make our recommendations at your next psych review.
