Wednesday 15th of August at 10am
The James Joyce Museum in Sandycove has been shut since June but Bord Failte have now agreed to reopen the Museum from 18th August with help of volunteers

Maybe you can help for a couple of hours each week? Or maybe you know someone who could help?

A special induction course for volunteers has been organised for Wednesday 15th at 10am at the Martello Tower in Sandycove. You can just turn up.

When Dublin Tourism was disbanded last year management of the Joyce Museum in Sandycove was taken over by Bord Failte however staff shortages in that organization led to the museum’s closure last June, 50 years after its opening.

The James Joyce Tower was one of a series of Martello towers built to withstand an invasion by Napoleon and now holds the museum devoted to the life and works of James Joyce, who made the tower the setting for the first chapter of his masterpiece, Ulysses.

Joyce's brief stay there inspired the opening of his great novel Ulysses. The gun platform with its panoramic view, and the living room inside the tower are much as he described them in his book.

The museum's collection includes letters, photographs, first and rare editions and personal possessions of Joyce, as well as items associated with the Dublin of Ulysses.

Sorry for X-posting this also to Volunteerism and Dublin, but it would be great if we could spread the word.
