Hi everyone, hope ye did well in exams, I am jumping back into exams after a break, I have 4 exams left p2 p3 and 2 options,

my plan is to sit p2 and p3 at christmas,

I am hoping to sign up for BPP online classroom, but it is really expensive for me as out of work on Mat leave for the last year.

I liked the bpp online classroom for my other exams, but was thinking maybe there is something cheaper or just as good out there?

so what are your thoughts and have many of ye experience of the online classroom. with a new baby, going back to work, and living an hour from nearest evening college, it really is my only option,

    thanks jackie

I'm totally broke and although it is tempting to buy some 2nd hand materials on the cheap and self study I'm still inclined to fork out on the BPP on-line classroom. I really liked it and want to be as prepared as possible for the exams as the thought of doing resits is soul destroying. I'm not on the P stage yet but I imagine they're pretty tricky to do on your own.

    Hi Pauvre Con,
Have you heard of opentuition.com, I just found them and wonder how something free could compare to bpp prices. I mean you pay for what you get dont you??
    Anyone any experience of opentuition.com??
online classroom by bpp was great, and I am inclined to go with what I know, only for the price, but having said that, can buy vat free as buying from uk with co vat no. so at least minimum savings there,

    Hi

No experience re BBP online classroom but I'm interested in this now. Can you log in whenever you want? How expensive?

Re Opentuition, I don't find it that great. Yes you can get some ok notes etc... but I find it v hard to find what you are looking for. The forums are mainly used by international students. I think you do really get what you pay for but OT is free so you can't really complain. I don't find it user friendly at all.

I believe there is a live and interactive BPP on-line classroom but I have chosen the pre-recorded lectures which go over their course notes chapter by chapter. You can view them as many times as you like and there's also a lot of other helpful material. You have support from a tutor if you get stuck and providing you submit a couple of assessments during the course of the term you get their exam pass guarantee i.e. if you do fail you won't have to fork out for the course again....not that I imagine most people would anyway! I guess BPP are the learning provider as recommended by the ACCA with their materials looked over by the examiners; so you'll get pointed in the right direction when it comes to the exam - at least that's what they claim. I've found it good so far but admittedly haven't studied many of the units to date. It is expensive - that's the problem. They range from 350-450 GBP depending on the unit.

Hi Frogstar, the BPP Online classroom was really good, log on whenever wherever, but it is costly,

Plus BPP ireland doesnt do it so you have to order from bpp uk, pay in sterling, pay uk oversees postage, they dont except laser, and as i dont have cc I have to find someone to leave me use theirs, - must look into prepaid cc, But it is really really good,

Think I am going to end up going down the OT route, found online lecture last night pretty good, going to get some second hand books and see how I go,

Hi.. I self studied for all my exams and have passed 12, I have only failed one F8 by 2% so far And passed the F8 resit with 74%. I definitely think it can be done!
    Delighted have only 2 left!

I chose self study as I had no financial backing from a job to pay for my exams and this is the cheapest way. I also have 2 small kids and don't have time to go to classes every week.

I order BPP books from the Book Depository online and find these really good. You just need to motivate yourself and it can be done and only cost €34 for the book and about €20 for the revision kit!

Hi Lucylu, Im just starting out self studying, I did the F4 and F6 and passed there in June and onto F5 and F8. I also have two small kids so was just wondering have you any tips? Did you do any revision courses or did you just study yourself? I did a revision course on F6 and while I found it brilliant the traveling up and down to dublin which is two hours each way was really hard and I was hoping I might get away with not doing them!

Hey, that's cool that you've done all that! Don't you find you'd have to cover all of the material as you wouldn't necessarily know which stuff is most likely to come up in the exams?

No one ever knows what is going to come up so I would never rely on those tips!

Best thing is to cover all the past papers and have a broad understanding, will stand to you later on in the further exams

I think there are so many resources (open tuition, online lectures, online notes, books are way better now than years ago) that home study is a viable option.

    Pity they don't sell motivation!

On another note does anyone know of any good support forums for acca? I don't like open tuition, acca forum is empty and I find boards here a little too quiet for exam queries?

Lovbnmomma- the only think I tried to was set times for studying. I would go to the library to study on sat mornings, away from the noise at home!
I just read the text, do my own notes and plenty of revision questions. Bpp texts are very detailed so I never really had a problem with not understanding anything.. The Internet is full of answers if you get stuck on anything.
I have never done a revision class.. Can't afford it!
Good luck with the exams. Just got my book for p5 so studying starts again! On the final stretch :)

Thanks Lucylu, What I did for the last two exams was take 5 evenings a week and study for an hour and half to two hours. Cant really study at the weekends due to partner either working or I am working. Do you think that will be enough for the next exams? Your an inspiration to me I have to say!
