DIY house extension

I am toying with a project of building my own house extension. I have never done a build like this before, but I am competent at diy. I am good with wood, have built a chalet style shed at the end of the garden, helped on construction projects etc....

Time would not be an issue. I could do it over the course of a year or more if necessary. Funds are an issue, hence the idea of doing it myself!

So my question is am I mad????

If not, is there a good resource which breaks down the various stages of the build, i.e. groundworks, foundation, brickwork, etc... so I could start putting a plan together. In all likelihood, it could be next Spring by the time I start.

I like the idea of a timber framed extension. I would want to finish it to a professional standard, not a diy standard so would get professionals in for specifics like plastering, electrics etc. I would also make sure it is built to proper planning guidelines as I don't want problems further down the road!

Any suggestions are more than welcome!
