I drive about 8000 motorway km and about 7000 in traffic - really heavy traffic where I could spend hours at a time. So I spend more time in the traffic but do a greater distance on the motorway.

My budget is about 6500 and I can have up to 8000 if necessary but I want to keep it as low as possible.

I like the look of cars like the Focus and Golf, but dont know if they are the right choice, particularly at the lower budget(Afraid Its all just rubbish). I currently drive a 2001 1.6 3 door focus and I dont want anything slower than that. Im young so my insurance is expensive so I want to keep it under a 2.0 diesel or a 1.8 petrol and 2004 or newer.

    Thanks

The prius is ugly as hell and the civic doesnt look great. I would drive one though, only 7 of them in the past 44 days on donedeal. http://cars.donedeal.ie/find/cars/for-sale/Ireland/hybrid?filter%28max_price%29=8000&filter%28min_year%29=2004&source=all

    Anything else?

Loads of newer shape civic hybrid in the UK. You get a vrt rebate so its tiny vrt.

Auto box ideal for heavy traffic. Hybrid very eficient around town. Even pre 08 models have cheap 1.4 tax, they're very well equipped and comfortable.

Its very rarely this clear cut, that's definitely the car you need.
