Who have you got, and what sort of time for the gold medal?

I will go with Bolt in a 19:30-19:40 time.

Yes I have the top 3 in that order. Just can see Blake powering down the straight and Bolt trying and tightening up

Track is fast, its a nice warm day, if they have a slight tail wind I reckon its Bolt with a new WR.

Hopefully a 2 metre tail wind!

That is a scenario I can well see. But, if Bolt runs a good bend and is strong in the straight then I see him pulling away. Bolt has admitted that Blake has trained harder than he. Blake being known as a savage trainer. The 200 is where that training and speed/endurance really matters.

Ill lay that forecast no prob:D

    1 Bolt 19.2x
    2 Blake 19.3x
    3 Spearmon 19.6x
    4 LeMaitre 19.8x

Though would like to see Lemaitre repeat last year though cant see him getting the better of Spearmon with how he runs the bend will need a big improvement

Im very confident Blake will do it as well.

Got Blake at 9/2 on betfair yesterday and threw 20 on him.

He looked incredibly powerful in the semi finals.

He can run the last 100m faster than Bolt, he is the best in the world in the last 100, he just keeps going. He has more power than Bolt imo.

I think both will run just under 10 secs in the first 100 and then very low 9's in the last 100.

It will be some race down the homestraight.

    Brilliant from Bolt.

Was he actually slowing down at the end?

ya i think he was. blake was coming back then he just took off again. a freak of nature

He did slow at the end, as anyone would, but he was also tying up a little. He opepend up with 50 to go when he felt the Blake threat. What was Blake's time?

    Bolt really annoys me.

The guy is capable of destroying records but he constantly eases off on 100m and 200m over the last few meters. The 100m final you could see him easing up somewhat and looking at the track clock. You hardly ever see him dipping for the line. He can go faster.

    Destroying records?

Not sure. He has ran thru the tape several times and broke WR while looking at the clock. I just don't think he had it today to go sub 19:20. Personally I think Bolt will not lower either record again. His absolute peak was 2009. He seemed to tie up a bit today and struggle at the end; still more than enough to win, but not as strong or fast as he looked in Berlin 3 years ago. His race to the straight was very strong and he looked to be flying, but he didn't have the same final 70 metres strength/speed that he had in Berlin. Would love to see his 20 metre splits from today and compare to Berlin 2009.

    You're easily annoyed.

    You're easily annoyed.

He's not hitting his potential, I love seen records getting smashed. It'll be years before anyone clean gets close to him and realistically he may not be in the same condition for the next games.

Posted this on another thread. Johnson reckons he can go quicker if he makes a few adjustments.

He could have run under 19.19 but he didn't want to. It was obvious.

Still, he won and his opening 50 was astonishing for such a big man. Weir and Spearmon were left for dead.

19.29 tops had he run through the line.

He slows up a tad, so the masses believe he can run such times.

    It's marketing.

I think Walshb is right, I don't think Bolt can beat those records.

From his interviews he seems to be thinking that as well, he is only 25 and he is talking about retirement, how it's his time to step aside for Blake and other youngsters.

The way he is going on you would think he is 35 not 25, he doesn't even know if he will be at the next Olympics.

This will be the best we will see from Bolt unless someone changes his mindset.

That's why I wanted Blake to win.

He has nothing to prove now, so workrate won't be there to improve.

Doesn't he get $$$s if he breaks records on the circuit? Nothing on offer here beyond the medal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,368 ✭✭✭✭walshb

MJ commented on Bolt coming to the line and knowing that he was not on WR pace resulting in him slowing up. Now, I know MJ knows his stuff, but humans can't be that accurate with stuff like this. Bolt had enough to be thinking about with 20 to go as well as working out exactly what time he was going to cross the line. And, he was still only 13/100 secs off the WR. Bolt could not really have known that with 20 to go that he was off WR pace and hence he eases up.

I rewatched the 200 and Bolt ran flat out for at least 190 metres. He eased ever so slightly in the last 5 metres. No way he shades .1 + seconds had he kept the pace up in the last 7-10 metres. Bolt was pretty much flat to the mat there. Maybe a couple of hundreths he could have shaded.
