How many operators in each speed van?

The topic came up and a mate reckons there are two people in each van. I would have thought that would be a waste of money, given that one person can only operate the camera at a time, though I suppose there are possible safety concerns when you consider the van that was set alight in the past, and so on.

    Anyone know?

its an automated process, the operator is the driver and basically switches the camera equip on , inputs location, speed limit etc and then i presume he sits back and reads 50 shades of grey

Fair enough. So it's just one person. My mate seemed sure there were two people in every van.

Too dangerous - the temptation for a Fr.Ted style riverdance-off would prove too much for even the most diligent.

    :D Very good.

One other question that came up, now that I think of it. Can the GoSafe vans give you penalty points other than for speeding (eg dangerous driving, crossing a white line etc.)?

No, sure speeding the only thing that causes crashes.

There's 3, driver, camera man and a guy to write down the car regs.

I noticed that many seem to drive the van with what looks like a snorkle/balaclava jacket wrapped around their face so you cannot see them properly. At least most of the vans in Limerick/Galway do this. Weird, it's like they don't want to be identified when driving the vans.

well known that most of these drivers moonlight as getaway drivers..

There's at least 2 of them in the van.
Eating egg sambos, bag of Tayto and a flask of tea. After lunch they play I spy!

Weird, it's almost like they don't want the crap beaten out of them when someone automatically gets points for speeding... :pac:

Pretty sure there's at least 4 - 10 in the van at anyone time, you were definitely done op

Can they give a ticket for no seat belt (using camera to demostrate) ?

Didn't think it was legal for there to be only one person working, what if the guy had a heart attack or something.

    Oh yes.
They can even tell if you're on a mobile phone as well.

There is just the one in the van, a friend of mine use to do it.
One day he took the camera out of the van while he was packing up, he forgot about it and drove off. He went back to get it and it was gone :)
He had to go back to his boss and tell him he lost a 3k camera!

They are absolutely notorious for catching people on mobiles and without seatbelts.

There is a toilet in the van aswell.

Are you sure? I passed a van twice on the same spot their the other day and it must have been there for 4-5 hours and I couldn't see anyone in the front or any movement in the back.

Its almost like they parked it up and left it there!

^^^^^^^^^^ Quite possible that is the case. Think about it. What is to stop the guy picking a location, parking there, setting up the camera and then having his missus or a mate who who he knows is passing collect him and off he goes for the day. Then get a lift back at the end of the day and pack it all up. Jesus, if you could get away with that twould be some handy number.

I was told by a friend's uncle's wife's brother in law's second cousin thrice removed that a large portion of the inside of the van is used as a storage facility for drivers' souls.
The latest versions of the cameras are able to capture those as well as pictures of drivers on the phone and not wearing seatbelts.

    You witty bunch of ****ers.

So, in all seriousness, do the gosafe vans penalise for anything other than speeding?

Surely you are joking.....they are van drivers, not commercial airline pilots.
By this logic every single Courier, Taxi driver, Truck driver, even ordinary car driver should have somebody with them in case they suffer a heart attack while driving (or stopped in a lay-by for a break).

Were talking vans on the side of the road... not jumbo jets!

Doh.. note to self, read post above.

Not the speeding... the coming to a sudden stop is what kills

It’s all a clever diversion -they are not looking for speeding drivers at all. Phil Hogan is sitting behind the camera taking pictures of people’s houses and where they put their s**t.
