Has anyone got a room going in their place or know of one? I'm going to TCD. Really starting to panic now as wanted to get a place before the CAO results come out on the 21st. Would prefer to live with other students, I'm always up for a laugh and would love some friendly outgoing housemates :)

Are you starting first year? What are you studying?

I have a spare room in Inchicore, not sure if that suits you...my flat mate is studying law and french and i'm studying history and spanish...we're both second years. How come you aren't applying to halls?

I thought about that, but halls are usually quite expensive, aren't they? And i don't fancy sharing a room.

Sounds good, how far are you from Tcd?

They aren't that much more expensive, plus what you would be paying for is well worth it, you have the best opportunity to meet people doing the same course or similar, and you also get a lot of perks for the likes of nights out because it's all organised by the jcr. So you're actually saving a good bit in some areas. I shared a room in halls and it was the best year of my life! They will always put you will someone with similar interests. I would seriously consider it before you move into a house. The atmosphere is really fabulous and Rathmines is a beautiful area, probably one of the best in the city, I mean you won't get student accommodation there for that cheap. I mean you would be very welcome in our spare room, but Inchicore is nowhere near Rathmines and it isn't exactly student central, so you won't have the best chance at a first year social life, although it is close enough to college (20 minutes on the bus).

Just make sure you think it all through before you make a decision, because you only get one first year in college and you want to make it a good one! I come from a single parent family and I had to work 20 hours a week in Dunnes (and will have to continue to do so this year) as well as college to pay for my living expenses, so the only room I could afford was a shared one. But if I had the choice now, I would definitely make the same decision! They are MUCH bigger (i mean three times the size of a single) and you have TONS of space and best of all great company!

If you think it through and you still want to house share, you can get in touch again and you are very welcome to view the room!

Im neither looking for accomodation, nor am I a new first year student. But I appreciate the neutral advice you have to give, and I agree with you. Friendships made in first year are usually the ones that last. So its a pretty important year.
