CAP2 Financial Reporting vs ACCA F7 Financial Reporting

    Hi folks

I am currently in CAP2 in ACA waiting for my results, I know that I failed Financial Reporting.

I am planning to switch to ACCA for the December sitting because I think the exams will be easier for me to manage with my working constraints as I can spread them out instead of sitting them all in onego with very little study leave (im in industry)

I will have the opportunity to repeat the exam through ACA if I want in October, but Im not sure if I should just cut my losses and resit through ACCA?

Has anyone here sat both the ACCA and ACA version of this exam? Just looking for a bit of advise on what to do.

    Thanks!

I haven't sat F7 but given that the PDA in DCU provides an exemption from F7 and it's a big enough step up to CAP 2 Financial Reporting from there, it should be a lot more manageable.

Did you sit all 4 CAP 2 papers this summer? I'd advise you to wait for your results anyway and then make a decision from there. ACCAs would seem to be a lot better suited to people in industry with limited study leave though.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah I sat all four, it was tough but i know for certain I failed the paper, I had to make the decision to concentrate on the other subjects so I only answered maybe 60% of the paper... Id want to be a genius to pull 50% out of that .... If only! :)

I think I'll repeat it in acca so... at least I'll have a better chance of passing. Can't wait to be done with these exams!

Just a quick one but if you fail just fin. reporting why not just repeat it and try to get it?
ACCA exams are probably just as tough as ACA so it's not like you'd be taking an easier route.
At one stage or another you'll have to pass tough exams so why not just put the head down and get your repeat?

I think I will just put the head down and sit the repeat exam with ACA, but I honestly don't think I could manage sitting all the FAE exams in one sitting with only 5 days study leave... At least I can split the acca p exams.
This day next week will be decision time eeeek lol

the FAEs really are quite different, to be honest I think they would be much easier to do with little study leave than CAP 2s if you do a few cases throughout the year.

I recommend you attempt the CAP 2 repeat. Any study you put in for the CAP 2 exam would be relevant for ACCA F7 if you have to sit it as the syllabus is about the same for both exams - a small number of standards examinable for CAP 2 are not examinable for F7 but all the main topics are the same for both.

You could decide to change to ACCA whether you pass or fail the CAP 2 repeat. Bear in mind that ACCA exams are no walk in the park - they are no easier to pass than ACA. Check out the pass rates for the professional level ACCA exams.

Hi thanks, the more I think about the more I'm convinced to repeat what I need to in CAP 2, get all the exemptions, and change to ACCA for the profs/FAE.

I know the exams are not easier but at least I can spread the sittings which would take off some of the pressure.

Thanks for all of the replies peeps! :)
