What do people think and why?

SITE, a possible Israeli intelligence front has video purporting to be the terrorists. Israel blames Hamas and "Al Qaeda". The US has said Iran were behind it. Hamas blames Israel. Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood blames Mossad.
Terrorism: the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.

The possible "political purposes" of those involved.

    EGYPT:
Newly elected Egyptian President Morsi is under pressure domestically from many of those who elected him who would like to see the Camp David agreements renegotiated, or at least put to a referendum. Under the agreement Egypt is restricted to a small number of security forces in the Sinai - the attack gives them cause to claim this is unsufficent.

    Israel:
President Morsi met with the Hamas leader just last week. They had agreed to begin to slowly open the Rafah crossing. Israel was furious. It is now closed indefenitely.

As part of the bigger picture, and this is a little known fact there was up until 2005 an Israeli controlled buffer zone on Gazan soil bordering The Sinai called the Philadelphia Corridor. This was handed over to the PA. However, Hamas took control of it by virtue of winning the Gazan elections and resisting the PA's grab of power.

If securing Israel's security requires controlling the Philadelphia Route then they will have to occupy it, a part of Gaza which in turn will lead to all out war with Hamas which would result in the destruction of Hamas and total occupation of Gaza. Conditions very much desirable to Israel.

Salafis in Egypt: Morsi finally named his cabinet just last week. The Salafis were outraged, despite receiving a quarter of the vote they had not a single minister appointed.

Iran: A continuation of the dirty war being fought with Israel.

The US (+ Elements of the Egyptian military):
    Gladio-style strategy of tension.

Al Qaeda: I can't think of a single reason that Al Qaeda would attack Egyptian soliders.

    None of the above...

I would say a break-away from Hamas would be more than likely, Fatah Al Islam or similar groups. Salafis, but not the Egyptian Salafi Nour or what ever they are called. Perhaps you could lump them in with Al Qaeda or Islamic Jihadis etc.

The other option not listed, could be Bedouins. THey have plenty of reasons to make their presence felt in the area.

The smart money would be on Israel being behind it and the Bulgarian bus attack.

People automatically dismiss the notion that Israeli false flag attacks ever occur. But the Lavon Affair (or Operation Susannah) and the attack on the USS Liberty prove otherwise.

the attack on the USS Liberty prove otherwise.
But that wasn't a false flag attack, was it? It looked very much like a deliberate attack by Israel on its number one ally.

    Officially it was a mistake.

The Israeli jets were unmarked. The only reason the story got out at all is because there were survivors and the ship somehow stayed afloat after the two hour bombardment. Many survivors believe that the Israelis tried to kill everyone on board and sink the ship which would then mean that the attack could be pinned on Egypt which would give the US causus belli to enter the Israeli-Arab war on the side of Isreal.

    You're correct.
    It wasn't a false flag.
It was, however, a nefarious conspiracy....a ploy in contravention to what you might call fair play, i.e. "kill our own for a further purpose".

If you dispute such machinations then you are very much alone, nay foolish.
You just wish in your heart they didn't occur.

The only reason it wasn't a false flag is because they couldn't get the boat to sink.
