I had a friend go on it a few weeks ago down in Cork for engineering position. They had bit of an interview. Also some problem solving where they were given three problems to solve and given 30 mins to solve them and then present their answer to one or two of the engineering managers. Not very technical problems but need good bit of logics and smarts to get them.

I interviewed for a contract position there about two years back, not a grad position though.

The first step was a psychometric phone interview where a lady from HR asked me questions like "do I like to learn a lot about a little, or a little about a lot?", "do I take a leadership role in groups", "am I ever satisfied" etc. I don't know the name of the test but if you look up psychometric testing you should be able to find out more about it. Then I travelled down and did a technical interview where I was given a few problems and then had to present my answers to three engineers. Straight after that I did a normal interview with the same panel.

As I was travelling down from Dublin they sent me for a medical in the after noon. I can't remember if I did a piss test but I think I did.

What you could do is ring to clarify the time and date and then ask what the interview might consist of.

Thanks. Will do. Hopefully I can find out what kind of puzzles they will ask me. Also dose anybody know what rake is and what it might apply to? Can't find any info but engineer on the phone mentioned rake and gears. I have gears covered but no clue on rake. Thanks again for the help.

i recently sent in an application for the graduate programme in cork and just recieved notification that that:

    "
Currently we have other applicants who possess a level of experience and background that more closely fit our needs for this particular position."

the description of the job stated mechanical engineer among other engineers with at least an honours degree. Ive just completed a Masters in Mech Eng which is why i am very puzzled about the response.

can anyone who has been called to an interview give me an idea on the type of "experience" they had that they seem to want.

The selection process is set up with several sections all designed to determine the likely success level of candidate once they are put into the open role within the organisation.

Psychometric tests first round would be to determine if your personality would fit in with the way things are done at the company based on their experience around what personalities best fit the company culture.

Gears and rake (rack?) seems like mechanical aptitude test. This determines your ability to apply mechanical logic to solve problems in a timely fashion.

An interview on top of the above allows the results of the psychometric and aptitude tests to be validated and also allows the candidate to bring more information to the table as to how they have demonstrated attributes such as leadership, perseverance, teamwork etc. etc., for a graduate position normally from other areas of their lives outside of work at this stage.

Medicals I would suggest are not performed until near the end and only with short listed candidates. Normally this is to ensure there are no medical conditions that would endanger you or others eg colour blindness depending on what it is could be a show stopper for an electrician. In addition depending on company policy drug testing may also be conducted and if anything illegal shows up this would normally be a show stopper.

Of course you need to be fully familiar with the company and have all your research done in advance.

    Best of luck

    Hi All,

I have applied for the Stryker Engineering Graduate Programme this year. I have completed the phone interview & the technical assessment already & I will have the face-to-face interview in the coming weeks. I think this is the last stage, and if anyine has any information on what to prepare that would be great! I really want this position, stryker seems like a great company!

    All the best,
