genuinely had no idea it was on this week! the Olympics distracting me! Like I did for the British Open, I selected 5 random players. I'm almost positive my 5 players have no chance...

    1. Scott Piercy
    2. Brendon De Jonge
    3. Gary Woodland
    4. Jimmy Walker
    5. Ken Duke

I posted in Rec>Gambling but might as well say here that I am going for some of the long-putter users this major (Scott, Els, Kuchar, Henry, Adams, Levin).

I am offering odds of Even money that Butch Harmon will describe Rickie Fowler, or anyone under the age of 40, as 'a fine young man'. Surely a banker!

    Westwood 28/1: Simpson 40/1: Schwartzel 55/1: Colsaerts 66/1: Olesen 150/1.
Lack of wind and lots of rain delays will play a big part this weekend.

I'm going with the following via betfair - all €2 wins:

    Dustin Johnson 25/1
    Jason Dufner 28/1
    Justin Rose 34/1
    Graeme McDowell 44/1
    Bo Van Pelt 70/1
    Geoff Ogilvy 140/1
    Thorbjorn Olesen 240/1

    Dufner and Louie O.

Ok so my picks this week are:

Dufner: Seems to be in contention every week he plays these days. Could have gotten him at 28s a few days ago but settled for 25s today. The way he's playing, he should be in contention with 9 to play.

Watson: Backed him in the Masters so he owes me nothing.

Mickelson: Like Watson, he's worth backing just for the entertainment factor. One moment you can't believe the moment of brilliance you just saw, then he misses a 2 footer. 40/1 is too big for him even if not playing well. He lives for majors.

Mahan: Again out of form but have to have a nibble at 50s.

Schwartzel: Playing decent golf. 66s is a god price imo.

Laird: Someone i've been watching for a while. I think he's due a big win shortly and this could well be the one.

Clark (Tim): Back to decent form and at 250s i couldn't resist a small punt.

Weather looks decent for tomorrow , but starts to show some more teeth come Friday

    216279.png

    216281.png

The latter out the better on the Saturday but really eases up for the Sunday , These change from run to run on the weather models but would be close enough to the time to be fairly accurate

Spoke to the resident boards.ie weather forecaster and here is his views on the weather for the weekend ,

Had a look at the guidance and the state forecast from NWS, looks like typical coastal weather with highs near 30 C each day and 30-50 per cent chance of thunderstorms developing each day although Saturday looks more unsettled than other days. So would expect a few brief delays for lightning in the area, there is nothing too severe indicated. Winds will be variable but mostly south 10-20 mph, nothing too strong although that course is wide open to any kind of a breeze. You can put that in any golf thread if you like, but basically, it's not very easy to predict timing of storms in that sort of hit or miss situation over four days, so it's more of a climate forecast in this case. No tropical storms expected, anyway. -- MTC

I took Dustin Johnson at 25.0 for the win and 7.4 for the place and Louis Oosthuizen at 44.0 for the win and 9.6 for the place .

Both bets on Betfair and top 5 being the place market

I think Dustin Johnson is a great shout! I'm going to back him e/w myself when I go bookies after work. I reckon an American will win it and it won;t be Tiger. Sick of seeing him favourite for all the majors this year! Also, I hope the weather is tough on them this weekend, they got it a little too easy at the British Open!

Could anyone tell me the odds on Adam Scott!? He could bounce back with a win or a top 5 finish...I would check myself but betting sites are blocked in work.

He will be like the spanish football team , always underachieving , then he will go on a roll and bag a load of majors !

Also Adam Scot is 34.0 (33/1 in old money ) for whoever asked (betfair price)

37/1 could prove to a mjassive price ew..Just have to fancy him due to the accuracy etc off the tee and with it being a long course.

Zach Johnson and Steve Stricker my main picks this weekend and have also a few quid on five or six big priced outsiders. In Snedeker I continue to trust. One day the ginger minger will become a prince.

    Singh @220
    Goosen @260
    Byrd @270
    Johnson @60
    Stricker @38
    Snedeker @140
    Petterson @140
    Senden @100

Is this Carl Petterson , 5.4 to lay out now on betfair :)

Dusty and Louis still in with a shout for me ,

Weather looks to pick up over the next 2 day with a decent breeze blowing today and tomorrow , and tomorrow being particularly wet .

    216449.png

I can see the score coming back in rather than much being added to it today.

My bad on Petterson that was a lay on top 5 finish , he is actually 25.0 to lay :o

Not a bad first day with only my hero Snedeker completely out of the race. Byrd having a stinker today though so he looks out of it as well. Petterson leading but he's not back out til later on when the weather is supposed to turn nasty.

Wow - looking at the leaderboard the course has obviously been taking victims today - looking forward to watching this tonight. Right now the only one of my bets not making the cut is t olesen - but with the types of rounds out there today I wouldn't be surprised to see +4 making the cut. Looks like Vijay and Blake Adams are the only ones of the morning players to make moves.

I forgot Immelman and Vijay use long putters; gutted now, but Scott and Adams are in great positions. Actually Immelman is 50/1 with PP, might as well get on him now.

Justin Rose having a fantastic round today, looking forward to watching the leaders tonight.

good work pighead, with singh and petterson you'll hopefully have an entertaining weekend. i think my singh bet @14-1 is pretty decent.looked at his form, progress every tourney for the last 4 with 2 top 10s, been there and done it, here's hoping

wheels coming off for Tiger on a Saturday, yet again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,743 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

Had a look at the latest weather guidance, feel that today will become less windy and probably little if any rain or lightning, although it's not totally ruled out. Would expect they will be very close to getting in the full event by latest playable time which must be about midnight there.

I would tip Steve Stricker as a good bet given that he is a very good putter and has only one full round to play. Not saying he'll win but a bet on him to do well seems like a good one, he is overdue to win a major.

Feel that Vijay and Bo van Pelt won't close well, Rory might but has a lot of holes left, and this Tiger Woods fellow is new to the sport. Well anything could happen there. I see G-Mac lurking also. This could go playoff and that won't happen today, isn't it four holes now?

Okay, now that I've put the k.o.d. on Stricker, the weather and various others, go gators. Somebody has to balance the account for the gatorade.

Could have cashed out yesterday for a decent profit but decided to leave it as Petterson and Singh were going well and Stricker was playing himself back in contention.

Not looking so good today with Rory three shots clear of the field and looking good. Could cash out now for a tiny profit but that would be no fun so I'll leave it and hope for a Rory collapse.

No joy for Pighead. Have to admit though that I enjoyed seeing Rory rip the course up and blow the opposition away. What a player.
