Welding Exhaust

Sounds like I have a hole in the exhaust of my car.

Is it possible to weld a patch over the hole, if it is small enough?
Any recommondations in the Letterkenny area that will do this?

I guess the alternative would be to replace the entire section where the hole is but I would assume welding it would be the cheapest option.

    What do others think?

It depends on what has caused the hole. Its normally corrosion and if thats the case then the surrounding metal and the rest of the exhaust section itself is unlikely to be in good condition.

If its stress cracked or impact damaged then it can certainly be welded but, depending on the car type, replacement exhaust parts can be very cheap anyway.

Anytime I have exhaust troubles I just weld it up or weld a new section in if rotten :)

A price on an exhaust depends on the car and the part of the exhaust

halfords sell a tar bandage that you simply wrap around the affected section. works fine for small holes. if in doubt, add some gun gum and pipe clamp.

I repaired my exhaust a few years ago like this and it went through two more NCTs

Just an update on this, it turns out the back box section broke away at the joint with the middle section.

Got a new back box fitted for 90 euro
