I'm looking to replace an old TV which is currently using an old Sky Freeview box. I want as neat a solution as possible, so require built-in Freesat

    Requirements:
    - Max 36 or 37 inch screen (only have space for a 90cm-wide TV)
    - Full HD
    - Freesat input/tuner for BBC/ITV/C4 etc. including HD channels
    - Saorview for Irish DTT channels
    - PVR function - external USB storage is OK (preferably with ability to watch a different satellite channel while another is being recorded, although not essential)

    Any suggestions?

If you specifically want a Freesat TV then your options will be limited

No Freesat TV will be Saorview certified, but they should work as they are designed for Freeview HD, although you may have issues with the saorview teletext, summer time settings and general support. The guys in Richer Sounds are usually well informed on this stuff and can source specific TVs and deliver down south

I got an LG LF7700 from them while they were still available and am still very happy it, bar the issues above

However you could always go with a TV with a built in free-to-air receiver and saorview (available in Powercity I believe)

37" Samsung in the link has a satellite tuner (UXXU model), Freesat if installed with UK as the country I believe. Don't know about the PVR functionality.

Thanks for the info. Would really like to see the TVs in the flesh before jumping in though!

Saorview is probably not the highest priority, as we're not using an aerial at the moment anyway, just Sky.

if you drop sky you wont have rte stations. so you will need a saorview box and aerial to watch them.

Just to clarify - this new TV will be in the kitchen to replace an old TV with a Freeview Sky box using UK epg, so no Irish channels anyway.

I have an RF feed from a proper Irish Sky+ box in the lounge to watch that box in the kitchen. Ultimately, I realise I will need an aerial feed to the kitchen to watch Saorview natively on that TV.

So to replace what I have at the moment I really just need Freesat. But for future-proofing it makes sense to also have Saorview support as the missus wants to see nothing on the wall but the TV!
