Hey people, I have a 1999 honda civic here, It's a great little car however the timing belt is well overdue, I was wondering could anyone give me a rought price of ehat he would cost me to get that and the water pump done?

As I said the car is only a 99 and needs a heap of work like an idle control valve, new back box for the exhaust and it needs a new swing arm (i think that what is called) on the back right tyre, The car has its nct in march so I was wondering consideing all the work that needs doing would it be worth putting any money into the car?

    Thanks...

It is indeed. Might cost you up to around €500 to get it in proper shape, but you'll be good to go with a car that you know the history of for another good few years. Can't say the same regarding putting €500 into buying another strange car. It'd be like a lottery, and anyone selling a car for up to a grand usually needs work, which is why they're selling.

I presume its a standard 1.4 Civic? If so, Then we'd be charging €300 for a timing belt kit and water pump supply and fit so it should be around that where ever your pricing.

As for the other stuff, its all maintenance/wearable parts so if the car is in good condition otherwise i.e interior, body, engine etc then IMO its worth doing as they are a pretty bullet proof car.

Hold on to that civic, t'will go for ever and a small few beans to keep her going and you know what you have raather than buying a new car which you won't know the gremlins underneath. You may find an independent mechanic who will put a new timing belt kit and water pump in her for 200-300

ye, just the standard 1.4. Well the interior of the car is very good, You'd swear the seats were brand new.. As for the body? bonnet and side panels are a bit rough and would need to be replaced.. Other than that the car actually drives well. It can be a bit difficult to start when cold but thats only because of the idle control valve..
