While not officially a rule, most clubs have an unofficial policy that its not allowed, to "upkeep the image"

Read this over in golf forum and it grabbed my attention a bit

When I played underage hurling we all wore shin guards, the coach made us.

I never played past underage so I'm not sure what the story is now

    Is this true?

I find it hard to believe that clubs would actively discourage wearing them.
I know they are not compulsory and it's up to each player but why would a club get involved?

    THanks, just interested to know

You're allowed wear them if you want, I wouldn't though cause you'll just get fellas trying them out an awful lot :)

You're allowed to wear them if you want. Some clubs insist on them for underage, usually at primary school level, to avoid injuries and scrapes to youngsters.

They tend to leave teenagers and adults make up their own mind about wearing them. I never wore them myself, but I played a few who did/still do. Each to their own I guess.

I certainly never heard of them being banned or discouraged from being used by any club.

Didn't DJ Carey used to wear shin guards?
    Camogie players wear them too.

It makes perfect sense to wear them, but, as Clareman said, everybody would be pulling on your shins non-stop during the game if you had them.

    I used to wear them.
Fellas would try them out but would always lose when it was their turn to be hit back :pac:

They're not banned but not many wear them. I never wore them, and never saw anybody wear them in my club once I got past U-8
