will give you a nice graph of what's using how much.

right-click your hard drive in my computer and choose properties, and see how much free space you have left.

There are viruses and spyware that download useless data that fills your HD too.

Use ccleaner to get rid of a lot of the crap that could have built up. I find too that system restore points can hog a lot of space if allowed to build up.

you may just need to delete "temporary internet files "

Probably the Acer utility/recovery partition. Disable the Low Disk Space warning:

    Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
    Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Policies\ Explorer.
(If it's not there, create a new DWORD (32bit) value and call it NoLowDiskSpaceChecks.)
Double-click on NoLowDiskSpaceChecks, and enter the value 1, and press OK.

Don't do anything, until you first ascertain how much hard disk space is actually used/free. You haven't mentioned this. You also haven't mentioned what OS you are running? If its one year old, its probably some variant of "Windows Vista" or "Windows 7"?

If it is Windows, you should open "Computer" or "Windows Explorer" and get a view of you hard disk space. There are numerous ways of doing this. e.g. clicking on the Windows key and E. Or just finding them in the Start Menu. Right-click on "C:" and then on "Properties". The will also tell you the total size of the disk itself.

There's always a chance the warning message is coming from an incorrect source, e.g. spyware.

Also feel free to post up the capacity info, or the warning message itself. You can take a picture of the screen with the "Print Scr" key, then paste it into "Paint" and save as a picture. ALT GR and PRTSC will can be used to copy individual dialog boxes/ pop-ups.

Flush your system restore cache too, that can take up a few gigs easily.

It's not the number of files you have it the size, videos and pics take up a lot of space.

Also check Recycle Bin properties for % of drive to use. If you have a lot of movies get an external drive and move them there. Don't forget to back up anything you have created yourself that you'd hate to lose - i.e. copy it to at least 2 locations, 1 preferarably kept at a different location.

Did you try ccleaner? It's saying 16mbs of 122gb? Are you sure it's that little? Move some videoas, documents and pictures on to your other drive or a usb drive if you have one

have you run a full antivirus scan ?

If there is some spyware/virus on your PC downloading data, there won't be much point deleting items as it will fill up again.

He wont be able to run one with only 16mbs of memory.

    in that case try:

    http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

this scanner only needs 15mb of space to run, it may or may not run, but see if it will.

Are you getting any pop ups or funny warnings (apart from disk space)? Try this if not:

Press the windows key and the letter E (or open my computer from the start menu)
right click on the c drive and click properties
    Click disk cleanup
let it doe it's job (could take a little while) then select all (tick the boxes)
click the more options tab and under the system restore option click cleanup and then click delete. Then click ok and click delete files.

    This could take a while

done this earlier, freed up small amount, not getting popups and the low space on e looks genuine,
    scan finnished no threats found

And have you run ccleaner too?

Can you tell me what space each hard disk has on your computer
    c
    d
    e
    etc...

If you've only a few docs and vids on it, and a few games installed, it sounds very strange that there's only 16MB of 120GB left.

You could do some the recommended stuff to free up some room to make the computer more usable (e.g. clear all Temp Internet Files), but I think there could be a bigger problem that needs resolving. Might be worth getting someone you know to have a hnads-on look at it. An app like DirSize will be able to say which folders are using the most space, and eventually you may be able to track down the culprit (system folders like "c:\windows" will naturally use up a lot of space, but shouldnt grow more than 30GB in Vista or W7.).

Good point, you mention that you also have an "E" drive?

And (for the third time) have you installed and run ccleaner to see if it can help clean out the trash? http://www.ccleaner.com

Also open windows explorer and open:
    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
    delete everything in here

    C:\Windows\Temp
    delete everything in here

    C:\Users\"YOUR USERNAME"\AppData\Local\Temp
    delete everything in here

Move some stuff to D: then!
Most browsers will remember where you tell them to save to.

And did you get much more space after running ccleaner and deleting what was in those folders? I feel like I'm pulling teeth here ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 216 ✭✭older i get better i was

sorry bud if im pissin you off, but ive defragged, and done most of the things said on here but it remains that most of the hard drive is used up, as you can guess im no puter boffin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,882 ✭✭✭johndoe99

the only surefire way of restoring your PC to proper working order is a Format.

But as you say "im no puter boffin", i'd recommend getting help from someone that can sit down at your notebook to do this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 216 ✭✭older i get better i was

at the moment my puter is working perfectly, its just i don't think it will for much longer I've done all the above accept ccleaner as my avg wont allow it, is there much involved in moving stuff to data drive?

No worries ;) And you deleted the stuff in the folders I mentioned above too? And then emptied the recycle bin?

as has already been mentioned, windirstat will allow you to see exactly where your disk space is being used up.

    http://windirstat.info/

don't go deleting anything, just run a scan with it and let us know what is taking up all the space and we can tell you if it's anything you can delete or move.

There's no harm in deleting what was suggested in the temp folders. At the very least if he's never done it before it'll give him a substantial bump to his free space. Afterwards if the OP still has issues windirstat would be of some help to us. But you could find a couple of gigs in the temp folders depending on things.
