I've been seeing this guy for the last 9 months. I met him out in my local and we have friends in common. I work away from home and he travels through work and we meet up every few weeks in the town where I work. We have met only a few times at home, because i'm never really at home and never around anyone we know.
Last weekend, he was out with the boys and text to say he wished I was with him and how much he really wanted to be with me and wanted to make a weekend of it. I didn't take much notice, he was drunk. I told him I would be out the following night anyway n I'd meet him.
The following day he text to say that he mightn't be out, that the guys were thinking of going to a different town. I text n said it's a pity i'm on the way now and never heard back from him. I decided later in the night to text, ask if he was having a good night, still nothing.
I went out and met our friend in common, who said the guy was with him all day. I bumped into him later and said hey. He looked at me, said hey and kept walking. Ignored me with his friends. I left with my friends and moved on to the next place.
He text a few minutes later to say he was outside. I didn't reply. He later text to know where I was and the following day and I told him how annoyed I was for what he did and he apologised, saying he was drunk and didn't mean it. He apologised a lot and then told me that he thought we would be good together. He said it a few times in the messages and asked to meet up this week to go to the cinema and talk. My friends are telling me to ignore him and tell him go away, but I really like him a lot and want to be with him. I'm confused and don't know what to do.

Well he sounds like a bit of a pisshead and all, but if you're ok with that there are no major red flags from my reading. If you want to go out with each other just go out with each other.

He is decent at the back of it, but it's just the fact that he never wants to go out anywhere we might bump into someone we know or even say hello to me when his friends are around. He told me before that he has only told one other person about us. It's probably just all in my head.:o

That's not all in your head OP. He's been with you 9 months and doesn't want anyone to know about you?

Major Red Flags. Get rid and get as far away from him as you can.

OK, whatever about ignoring texts etc (some people are just crap at texting) ...

    This is downright horrible behaviour!

I don't care how much he apologised afterwards, there is absolutely no excuse for this. None.

How could you be with a guy who is, apparently, ashamed to let his friends know that he's with you? I mean, you say it's been nine months!

Think of it this way - if it was your sister or your friend who was in this situation, and asked you for advice - what would you tell them?

My advice would be to tell him it's over, move on and, in the future, don't settle for a guy who doesn't respect you and want to be with you. Seriously, I can't even imagine how badly a "boyfriend" like that would affect your self-esteem. :(
