HTC One X Data Drama...

    Hey peoples!

Wondering if someone can help me with a very annoying issue. My brand new HTC One X which I adore is playing up! Every time I unlock the screen it automatically turns my data on.

I have to turn it off every time I unlock the screen, it stays off until I lock my screen again and the second I hit the unlock button it automatically connects again.

I have spoken to helpdesk who say either soft reset, which didn’t work or factory reset. The factory reset worked for about 20mins, but it's continued again.

I cant bring it back to the shop I bought it from as it was given to me as a present from Ireland and im currently in NZ.

I tried Google but didn’t get too far. Anyone got any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    SM :)

Hmm. Is data and data roaming off in settings, wireless? Is wifi set to never sleep?

Do you have any battery saving apps on the phone ?
Sounds like something one of them would enable.

Yup both are off except when i manually turn them on.
Wifi is set to Keep Wifi On During Sleep

Oh possibly, i have battery defender? Shall i get rid?

Bizarre actually, i did the factory reset, the problem stayed. Then this morning i got a manual update, updated the phone and the problem went away. I downloaded my apps again and now its back... i'll get rid of Battery Defender and see.

Battery Defender (and such apps) are made to automatically enable/disable your internet connection as one way to increase the life of your battery.

They will have a schedule that will fire up the internet at intervals (what ever is configured in the software itself) while the screen is off so you can synch your emails etc..

It will also have a clause that will enable the internet when the phone is unlocked cause it presumes you will want to open something that will look for internet, being a smartphone and all.

I have the same phone and was using juice defender. I uninstalled it and have actually noticed a FAR better battery life than with it. On a good day I get 3hrs of screen on time (normally 2.5hrs) but with juice defender it never reached 2 hours of screen on time.

Just put the widgets on your home screen to enable/disable your internet connections. And control your internet connection manually and you'll be grand!!

(BTW WiFi connectivity consumes less battery than mobile data)

    It worked!

Uninstalled Battery Defender and problem solved, no more automatic data connection when i unlock the screen.

Thanks a lot guys, really appreciate it :)
