    Hello there,

I'm thinking of purchasing a 2008/2009 Accord, I think I have my heart fairly set of these because these seems to come with loads of toys :D
    I a minimum of 20,000 miles a year so I need some comfort :D

    I like this one http://www.carzone.ie/search/Honda/Accord/EX-I-CDT/30113439227334090/advert?channel=CARS

    only it's red :(

I have need purchased a 'jap' car before so have very little experence when going to view one, so just looking for a bit of info here,

    What BHP are they?
Are they reliable or any other known issues that they have?
If you had one, would you recommend one?
Also my 2003 passat at the minute does roughly 50 MPG(according to the trip computer, I'm not going to argue with it :pac:), could I expect similar from the Accord?

    Cheers, I know it's a lot of questions :o

Honda diesel great car had an estate for a while some nice bit of torque(pull) in it.
Honda in general especially their vtec engines are bullet proof.
MPG would be similar all depends how heavy your foot is and changing at lower revs helps.
Jap cars are at the top of the table for reliability for new and old cars.

    BHP(ps) arround 150 (horse power)

They are great cars. See how you like the ride quality with 18" wheels - that's the only concern I have, but that might be nothing really.

Bought an ES GT a month ago. Big improvement over the previous model in almost every single way.

Fuel consumption is higher though. I used to get 50mpg out of the CDTi but struggle for 47-48mpg on the same journey.

Was looking at an A4 as well but the Accord was much better equipped and roomier. Much nicer inside and better looking on the outside too I think - probably just me though!

Hmm OP, you do ask about hp, but Still want good mpg?
Do you really need a diesel? You do a lot of mileage?

If you dont do huge huge millage, want a lot of toys and comfort, a good we bit more horses under bonnet, maybe you would be interested in mazda 6 mps?
Maybe mpg wount be as good, but a lot more toys and comfort!

Yes the 18'' wheels would concern me, Think I would swap them for 16'', but if the car came with 17'' I would settle with them,

Yes I could do 70 miles a day mon to fri, and then add in weekend driving, and few trips across/touring the country the milage adds up :(

I definatly want lots of toys and comfort :pac:

Going to google the mazda mps now :)

Well if I remember right mos could do a 35 mpg. That's ofc if you will resist pushing it to the metal.

Things is you willing to go 2.2 tax already. So mps 2.3 won't be that much in tax. Judging by the link you gave on accord your budget would be even higher them a very clean high spec mps, low millage mps. So you would spend less on a car and saved money could be spend on petrol.
Trust me, it's a lot more fun to drive a 4wd 260hp high spec Mazda, then diesel tractor fwd. all the luxury will be destroyed as soon as you start up that diesel engine.

If you go 08 tax is cheaper thats what op was looking for something up the years.
If you can afford it stick with the Honda or a Toyota you will be very happy.

Now don't hold me to this but I believe mazda have some trouble...

Tax on 08 is 330 euro and comes with 17" wheels. Ride is okay at that with reduced body roll over the CDTi.

Every car have troubles. You know, you need to change oil, filters, tyres. I heard you even need to put fire juice in to it to make it go!!! ;)

Yes but the 2008 accord tax is 330 PA I think, I would be willing to pay about 800 on tax roughly the same as I am paying now for comfort,

I completly understand where where you are coming from, but I like to work my car up through the rev range and I'd just be afraid the 2.3 petrol engine would break me :(

The mazda 6 diesel seems to be well spec'd to,

Think it's between mazda 6 and the accord now, or is there is any other well spec'd Diesel cruiser's out there?

Diesel does not have much of a rev range m8! ;)

I would not go for Mazda 6 diesel though. Mazda 6 has lovely petrol engines, but diesel - not so much.

I know sure every car Ive had has had something sure ecu went on my 06 vrs
Just look up how reliable jap cars are they are topping the table

Yes I think it will be a big change going from a really uncomfortable base passat to the accord alright :o

Got one of these last Oct 2008 old style body.
    A bullet proof car!

MPG is about 45mpg urban driving and 50mpg + on long haul with the cruise control on. Recently got 59.6 MPG out of it. So basically I am getting on average with most of my driving been in and out to work urban driving 550-600miles for a €85 fill.

Only issue I had was a squeak out of the clutch pedal but the local car dealer here repaired it without charge. Fair play to them! Same clutch as the Civic but Honda don’t have a recall on it for the accord for some reason and wont cover it. But the squeak may come back again. It just a matter of greasing the master cylinder hydraulic release pin I am told.

Comfort wise very good, lots of toys, built in sat nav is very good. Check the Sat nav CD to see what year version it has.

On the open road the 17” wheels seem a bit big. I find it can pull the wheel slightly out of you hand if you hit a big bump and some times if you drive over the centre white line too.

Bluetooth hands free is a bit funny with my nokia keeps cutting in and out and disconnecting. I can not dial a number off the fone and use hands free I have to input it into the hands free by voice which is a bit annoying.

Tax €302 last year Service can be a bit expensive as I use Honda genuine parts and oil. E.g. 6lts of Honda oil and a oil filter was €120 over the counter.

But all said and done I am very happy with it and a excellent buy.

    Hi guys

Sorry to pull up an old post.

I'm currently looking at a Honda Accord Ex 2008 new model. Fab car.

Any updates from any owners on the car?
Reliability? How are the electrics. Do they give trouble. The whole car is electric... even moving the seats forward. Very cool ;)

Also... I test drove one. Found the steering wheel a bit 'giddy'. Easy to move it or something even at speed... anyone have issues with this or the general handling.

    Thanks in advance...

I'm driving a 2009 executive spec one since October. Love the car. It's got lovely power and acceleration. I'm getting about low 40s mpg which is OK probably my only gripe with the car. No bother with electrics apart from a giddy front parking sensor which is hyper sensitive. On the first models the speakers were faulty in the front doors so would blow. Audition with a cd before changing. If you can get low mileage and in good condition you can't go wrong. The one nice thing about it is that the 2008 car is essentially the same accord that's been sold now. It's also a minus as there is no sign of a new model. I was in a dealership at weekend and they were saying new model is due 2016.i haven't seen any official word on the net. If it's an ex model also check around the sun roof cause some people reported problems with rust there..

I have had 13000 miles trouble free. Love the car. Its a 2008 2.2 idtec. I also found the steering very light at one stage and felt it slide a bit on wet roundabouts. Changed the front tyres and got the alignment done and no problem since. Previous tyres were more worn on the outside.

The car I'm looking at is a 2008 2.2 diesel, executive.
It has 101,000 miles... is it too much?
One owner... but it was a company car, would that make a difference?
Few small marks but nothing you wouldn't expect from a 6yr old car.

I've heard nothing but good things.... great! I wonder is it a better car than an A4??

Is it the new or old model as both had different engines.

100k miles would not be excessive for a 6 year old diesel car. If it is a company car then more than likely it has a full service history as servicing is normally part of the leasing deal with company cars. So ask the seller to see the service history and ring the garage(s) that serviced it and verify with them what they did and that noted in the service book.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 96 ✭✭jenjoeful

It's the new model and does have a full service history. Not with main dealer but still good.
    Very excited now..... :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,481 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Seems very odd to me that a one owner company car would not have a service history from a main dealer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 96 ✭✭jenjoeful

I guess it's down to how big the company is.... a big one would. A normal small to medium may not... I thought that too. But the main dealer charge outrageous prices for jobs... if I was a millionaire I'd still be reluctant be ause they screw you. Audi charged me 70e for break fluid oil change.... never again!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭Meso Harney

Is €70 excessive for a brake fluid change? Sounds reasonable to me:)
