Is this DJ PA set a good deal

    Folks.

This is probably a really stupid question but here goes. I am considering buying this DJ PA set http://www.hifi-tower.ie/DJ-PA-Set-400-Watt-System-with-Amplifier-Speakers-and-Cables_i2643.htm

The reason being is that for the last year I have been doing the music at birthday parties for friends of mine (usually 40th's) and christenings etc. For my present I would hire the equipment and just set it up on the night and play music from a connected laptop.

I will be doing this a few more times over the next year and as the hire price is €100 each time I was considering buying the equipment in the link above.

Here is the stupid question. Would I need anything else with this package in order to connect up the laptop? Do I need to get a mixer also or can i connect the laptop to the amp and play the music that way. I use Virtual DJ on my laptop to play the music and usually when I hire the package I get a mixer with it which connects to the amp, however I notice a line in and line out connection on the amp in the package listed above so can the laptop connect staight to it?

    Thanks.

Look up the Bose L1 system. Try get a demo somewhere. Incredible unit for the money.

The line in on that unit is a 6.3mm jack so you'd need an adapter from the line out on your laptop. Otherwise you could use a 3.5mm splitter cable with rcs adapters. Probably a bit messy though. You'd probably be better connecting to a mixer and from there to the amp as you'll have better control over the levels. You''' still have the connection issues unles the mixer has a 3.5mm input. You could always get an external interface as well

    Cheers guys.

Thanks for the replies. I will get a mixer so as well. They are not too expensive on that website so may as well add it to the list.

Bear in mind that the majority of mixers won't have a 3.5mm input so you'll still have the connections to think about. You could always invest in a dj controller which would be the best of both worlds really. They vary a lot in price so would depend on your budget. Here is a list from Thomann

I know it doesn't always work out like this, but don't buy cheap. Cheap gear sounds awful and the crowd can tell. Its better to spend the money now, get a decent system, and even if you never get the use out of it you can always sell it as good gear holds it value.

The pricing structure on that is a bit mental. Either ridiculously cheap (although probably dubious quality) or ridiculously expensive.

    €24.90? Really?

    Haha!
That looks like it goes to 12.
It reminds me of the hifi Napster wanted to get in the Italian Job remake. The one that can tear chicks' clothes off.
