The story is, my car a nissan quashqui 2008 diesel 1.5l. 150k kilometers. Bought last year, serviced regularly. NCT in April, just after NCT car starts to shake once hitting over 80km intermittantly. Brought it to three garages, brought it back to place that got new wheels, got timing belt replaced, air filters etc and it went away for a few weeks. Back again with a vengence, just seems to lose power, no warning lights. Funny thing is two friends with 08 diesel cars but totally different makes are having the same issues - my garage cannot find anything at all wrong with car neither can the other two I brought it to just to check. I need to sell this car next month and I cant sell it on when this is happening - Im just looking for opinions? MY friends were told dirty diesel and it does happen after I fill up but not always.... just need a little help!! Thanks

Possible debri in fuel tank & blocks intake intermittenly.... but only a possibility hard to diagnose without seeing vehicle although previous garages should have spotted problem.... Have you been buying cheap washed diesel?

Just my opinion but the fact that it is not showing as a diagnostic/computer issues suggests something more low tech like blocked or dirty fuel lines from cheap diesel. Also that is does not happen all the time at all speeds/loads points away from blocked/faulty injectors, faulty fuel pump etc. A similar thing happened to my previous Audi A6 2.0 TDI and two supposedly expert garages, one indy one main, tried to tell me that it was going to be very expensive, one saying that the manifold was faulty and the other saying that all the injectors would have to be tested and then replaced but I stuck to my guns saying that these issues would mean that it happened all the time and not just at a certain revs/speed. The main dealer was a bit embarrassed when they found a blocked filter and dirty lines caused by dirty fuel and ended up charging me a pittance. Their confirmation came when checking the fuel pressure at different stages and should have been about 10 bar but found less than 2 bar at the business end.
Again just my opinion based on my experience buy hope you get it sorted and that it does not cost you an arm and a leg.

The is a fuel filter recall on the 2008 model, have you had this checked?

Re: dirty fuel, if you buying stupidly cheap fuel from an unbranded station it's highly likely it's washed. If you wish to pm
The station I'll be able to advise you pretty accurertly if it's kosher

Be aware that mechanics love to spout out the "dirty diesel" line to customers, I've got it quoted back to me it many times over the years. Every single time it has been completely incorrect. I had the AA with 2 alleged mechanics screaming adamant that the fuel I sold the customer wasn't derv, it's was in fact pure 100% kerosene (I'm not making this up). The mechanic diagnosed this by dipping his finger into the widthdrawn product and tasting it, a complete clown. They charged the customer close to 250 quid for this expertise.

In the end it was a fly wheel issue.

What does kerosene taste like, just out of interest?

Can you confrim whether or not the garages have scanned it for fault coded. Even an intermittent problem will still log a fault. What i'm getting at is that if it was a fuel system problem or a blocked pick-up or water in the fuel, it should normally shrow up a code of some sort. Unlikely but just to rule it out you could drain the condensate from the filter or just replace filter.
I'd be very skeptical of anything I am told by a main dealer. In my experience their modus operadi is to simply begin replacing parts en-masse on a trial and error basis until they get whats wrong. It's in their interset to replace as many expensive parts as possible as they profit from the parts too.F*ck the poor bastard who has to pay for it. An INTELLIGENT, COMPETENT indy is your best option as generally they price for labour and do not mark up the parts they get in, which are usually non OEM.
