    Hi all,

What are the thoughts out there regarding mixing services in the same trench?

i.e blue water main, red ESB duct, etc

    Thanks

Would you run an ESB cable along a river bed?

it would depend on whether the river was ducted or not :-)

on a serious note of course it does not make sense to do this however do you know if there are specific regs or trench laying guidelines I could refer to?

There is guidance alright. The publication Site Deveopment Works For Residential Developments has or had a diagram with dimensions of separation distances for the various services. I don't have a copy to hand at the moment but I will look in the morning. If I recall correctly there's also a diagram in the homebond manual

i will be doing a trench shortly with a water main and an electrical cable to electric gates in the one trench. Was going to put in armoured cable with no ducting and put watermain into the same trench - any issues i wonder???????

Also you should refer to the ETCI regs for buried cabling / depths / etc
    Bord gais technical guidance etc.
Where it can be avoided it should be.
