It is not for the faint-hearted. Have a look at these. Then ask yourself how can anyone ever say that a course was long or short based on their Garmin!

To make it easier for yourself, you could find a qualified course measurer.

That would be nice but costs are important as we need to spare every cent for the charities.

If you really want the correct distance, you need a proper course measurer.
There's a list on page 8 of this

Then again, if it's part of a triathlon... :)

Hang on, if you have an AAI permit is that not conditional on having the course measured by a qualified course measurer?

That's a bad start already. Where else will you cut back? Will one ambulance do instead of two? Do you need a doctor? Will you bother paying for road closures? Do you need a PA system?
If you are organising an event, you need to make sure it is done properly and with safety in mind. Penny pinching for charity is not the way to go.

Sorry you've taken me up wrong.

We're trying to get a lot of small things for free or sponsored so the most of the fee goes to the charity ! Not cutting costs at all, first aid and safety are essential !

We're asking for favours to exchange for good karma. I'll ring some certified guys on that list and ask will they do it for us.

The permit was sponsored by an athletics club. They'll also provide marshals.

And you clearly don't know me, a PA system isn't a problem !!

I don't want to get into a debate as all my energy is focused on this event. If you want to pm me i'll talk you through what we are doing and your more than welcome to get involved as well.

Best of luck with this. I would of thought the dublin marathon would of team up with cancer or sonething this year since they have no sponsor.

Keep us all up to date.

This sums up all that is wrong with internet forums. A lad with good intentions (but a novice) asks a question, gets probably the best advice he could get at this stage (from a master), and you have an ignorant pop because you have access to a keyboard. Educate yourself on how much DM raises (directly and indirectly) for charities. All the while ensuring accuracy with distance, timing, support, etc.

It wasnt a pop so calm down. I am sure DM cant do it for some reason. It was just an observation. And i was thinking of the PR side for DM. So get on your own ignorant crusade.

Dublin marathon has a whole list of associated charities
Last year the official charity partners were Chernobyl Children International and the Children’s Medical and Research Foundation.

I know that but what i was hinting at is having one of those charities to have the old sponsor place for this year only.

    Measuring sorted out.........and for free:p

I'll be posting about it in the events page in Sept but when you pay the entry fee EVERY CENT will go to charity. Any sponsors we get will cover costs and supply services on the day.

I think ( i could be wrong ) that it will be the only marathon in the country that every euro of your entry fee will go to two worthy causes:)
