Applying for Widow's pension

    hi there,
    can anyone explain the difference between the contributory and the non contributory widows pension??? i'm 33, working full time with 3 kids. i don't know which to apply for?

    Hi. go ahead and apply for the contributory widows pension there. the non-con is for folks who for whatever reason dont have enough PRSI contributions to get contributory. so non-con is means-tested and not for you. im presuming you are paying PRSI and/or your late husband was paying PRSI. the department will use either your PRSI contributions or his PRSI contributions to give you the most favourable outcome, but will not combine contributions. Did you apply for the bereavement grant? also some good news there is also a widowed parent grant of euro 6000 that you will get automatically if you have dependent kids and you apply for the widows pension.
