Car off-road on wrong side of the border

My mate has been working abroad for a bit and isn't likely to return permanently anytime soon.
He parked his car up in Dublin before he headed off, and reported it to the Northern authorities as off-road (SORN cert.) Now, the car park spot he's left it in is needed soon, and he'll be back for a visit shortly and is looking to get rid of the car.
Problem is, it's not taxed or insured, hasn't had its last MOT, and is on the wrong side of the border from where it's registered.
What's the best thing to do here? (Obviously driving untaxed or uninsured is not a runner.)
It's a ten year old Mondeo, hardly worth much, but the alloys are probably worth a few quid. He just wants rid of the headache really. I don't know much about how such things work, as I generally just buy a car and drive it till it won't go then replace it. So I thought I'd ask for him here.
What's the best way for him to get the car offloaded legally and above board? He is the registered owner with all the paperwork available, and while the car probably does move, it hasn't been turned over in months.
Are there scrap dealers in Dublin who would come and tow it? Or what would people recommend?

There are loads of scrap dealers that will come and take it and issue end of life cert, but I'd be trying to get 400 or 500 hundred for it on top of taking it away.

Sorry for the bump, but can anyone give me a few numbers for scrapyards I could ring about this? I'm trying to get things sorted so my mate can just fly into town and get it offloaded before he heads up North to see the family.

Throw an add for it on donedeal.
Sell on that and state all that the car has is it worth putting on the road again as in is there high mileage or damage ?

you can't legally sell it in the Republic.I doubt you can legally scrap it either. So, you , sorry HE ,is going to have to bend the rules somehow.I think Id cover (or remove) the plates, advertise it for spares only and chance my arm.

So it wouldn't be legal to scrap it south of the border?
It's a decent car, mileage in the 70s, was running well last time it was going, clean, couple of scratches on the paintwork but no damage, good alloys, so it certainly could be sold for use, except its a Northern reg and is out of tax and insurance and missed the last MOT because it was off-road.
So what are the options here? I said I'd look into what could be done for him, but I'm frankly not going to the trouble of putting up an ad and fielding calls on this. It's not mine, after all.

Hi red does he or you have anyone with property up north that you could bring the car up and park up as to sell that would be worth selling for road use I understand it's 01 but if only 70k on it that would be a good car.
If you don't mind me asking whats he want for it.

He would be ok to bring the car back up to park up once insured to do so as he has proof it has been off the road.
Let the owner do that though cause you could always come across atough cop, but I wouldn't worry.

To be honest, I think he just wants rid of the headache (car could be clamped or towed in a bit if it isn't moved), but would like a few quid for the alloys at least as they cost a few quid. I have a gaff up north, but there's no off-road parking, plus the car's not insured or taxed or MOT'd.
Problem is getting it up there. I don't want to drive it running the risk of getting pulled over for no tax disk etc, and I doubt he does either.

If he transfered insurance over for the few hours or that would be ok suppose you don't know anyone with a trade policy?

still risky to drive it across the border with no tax /MoT.and probably not worth enough to pay for a transporter.

Dunno anyone with a trade policy, and to be honest I'm not running the risk of getting pulled over bringing it up to the North, and my mate doesn't want to either.
How much would a transporter cost, or what is the situation with trying to get rid of it in the Republic? Is it definitely the case that it can't be sold or scrapped in the 26?

I'll give him a bell later and ask, but to be honest I think if he got a few hundred to cover the value of the alloys he'd just be pleased to be rid of the headache. I haven't checked what the book price on those late 01 Mondeos are, North or South, but I don't think he's holding out for a top price. He's got a life elsewhere now and this is just a hassle for him that could get worse if the thing gets clamped and towed and he's left with a bill.
I'll go check on the car tomorrow and take some pics but to be honest I think he and I are both agreed that the most painless way of resolving this is the best way forward. I've a load of work on and don't have the time to be dealing with it, and he only intends to be in town for the day.

what do you think happens crashed uk cars here that can't drive home.
Also parts don't require vrt
