Only €1.50 for the return leg is a bargain.

That is only for the Day return, the mponthly return leg is quite a lot more while The bus is only €13.30 monthly return

No, but he possibly doesn't know there is an alternative to the train.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,047 ✭✭✭Hilly Bill

Bus Eireann provide an excellent alternative to the train and Rush-hour traffic compares well to leaves on the tracks excuse coming soon to a late train near you!

How much are bus companies paying you for cheap advertising?

    An excellent alternative eh?

All you have ever posted here about it has consisted of a long list of complaints.

Amazing how you seem to twist everything to suit a particular argument that you may have.

Because it starts from the city centre. When considering the train add in the time it will take to get down to Heuston.

I don't think there is a particular problem with giving the OP an informed choice.

What harm is there in letting the op know that there is a cheaper alternative from the City Centre stopping in the centre of Athy which takes roughly the same time when the journey to Heuston is taken into account? The op may have thought the train was the only option available to them.

Foggy if you had your way the bus wud be the only option for the OP to take, judging by your willingness to close lines and boycott rail and the like!

No harm but the OP didnt ask about the train . Im sure the OP would have asked about the bus if he/she was going to use it. The Bus is as popular as the train and people do know about it.
Not everyone in Dublin live in the city centre Foggy. Where are you going with this journey to Heuston lark? The bus will still have to go past Heuston.
For someone that hates CIE you do a lot of promoting of their services ;).

So the bus is far cheaper and more frequent than the train but you would prefer if people were not informed of the alternatives and the costs, times etc? Not very helpful but with regard to Irish rail not very surprising.

I am also not anti-rail but I do think the railways need to be rationalised and modernised in Ireland to be able to compete with bus and road. Sticking the auld head in the sandbox and dreaming of days of steam and mark 3s does nothing constructive.

I can also be critical of buses at times especially bus eireann and the nta's new timetables which are basically impossible to keep to. The x8 is almost always 30-50minutes late while the x20 has not been on time since it was started over a year ago.

I'll vouch for that, although it is a vast improvement on the existing 20 service.

Giving info is one thing but going on about mk3's and days of steam and heads in sand is strange when all the OP wanted was info on the return price between Dublin and Athy by train.

Why? when we now know that there are probably better options available to the op and others who might read this?

The train is quite slow and quite expensive while the buses are not much faster but do serve both Athy town centre as well as Naas and Kilcullen town centres and also drops you off in Dublin City Centre, something the train will never be able to do!

The buses are also much cheaper and some would say more comfortable considering the state of the tracks from Hazlehatch to Athy, Trains are regularly delayed and often overcrowded.

Snarkiness aside the bus wins hands down on this and many other routes!
