2000 Ford Focus Hatchback Black Ghia 161k

    NCT up in 4 weeks.

Airbag light on. Think it's the airbag module.

Exhaust noise. Center box needs replacing.

Speedometer can stop working sometimes and then goes back up to normal reading. Quite common on the Focus. Needs a new co2 sensor.

The car is slow to start, but always starts. Has been like this for over 12 months. Just have to keep the key turned that bit extra.

Two new tyres on the front and new battery.

What should I be looking for it (if anything lol)?

    Thanks

Actually it has two months tax left on it. :)

My opening post makes it out to be a piece of junk, but it isn't really. I drive it to work everyday. Engine and gearbox are sound. No rattles at all, solid car.

My main concern is the airbag light for NCT test. Can't justify spending the money on a 12 year old car.

Just not sure what money to look for it.

    No, it's the better 1.6. :)

You'd pick up a secondhand airbag ECU for very small money. It might cost less than you think to get a fresh test on it. Definitely should be possible to get at least €500 as it is but with a new NCT it should fetch €1000.

Cheers George, might look into the secondhand airbag ECU route.

€1k for a 12 year old car with 160k miles on the clock? I asked for a valuation on an opel astra of the same year with a fresh nct and half that mileage was was told to expect €850

Do people see fords as being more desirable?

I probably have one here if you are anywhere near Co Laois. I have a 00 Focus here for parts that wasn't crashed so the airbag ECU should be ok in it.

lol. I'm from Cork but drove to Laois today to buy a Saab 9-3 (see my earlier posts in the 9-3 thread).

Is the ECU the same as the module? I actually changed this already from an un-crashed car and the light is still on. Main Ford dealer diagnosed it was the module, so I give up now.

yes. When launched, the focus dominated it's sector, the Astra never had the appeal of a corolla, golf or focus.

But how desirable is a twelve, nearly thirteen, year old car now? Surely it's got to be more about the condition of the car at this stage, bodywork, mileage, what work has been done to it?

Im sounding very bitter here but im actually just interested. :)

Nah, you'll always have people who aspire to owning a particular car, even for banger money.
