Golfing on your own

The weather was nice this evening for once so went out for 9 holes by myself as nobody else was available! I enjoyed it (even though I played quite poor) It was my first time out by myself and would probably do it again? Anyone else enjoy a quiet round by themselves?

One thing that did annoy me however was when I finished the 9th....I walked over to the air pressure machine to clean my shoes. There was nobody around except one guy who was standing between the first and tenth tee box not up to much so I started cleaning my shoes. Next thing the guy (old) was up on the tenth tee with his club (no ball teed up) and shouting over 'are you finished' in a prickish way. I just said yeah and put the machine back...I then looked down to the tenth green and saw lads still on the green....it's a par three! I couldn't believe he was being such a prick...he wasn't tee'd up and even if he was he couldn't tee off. I literally stared at him with loathing....made sure he new I was looking when he eventually hit and right after he hit I sprayed away even though my shoes were clean. Sorry for the rant but I really can't stand these snobs at golf clubs who think they own the place.

I play plenty rounds on my own. During the summer on weekdays I'll be on the course between 6.30 and 7.00 in the morning. I like having the course to myself, find it very relaxing

i find it's much more difficult to concentrate when playing alone. the competitive edge really helps..as does ****e talk from tee to green! but if im out alone it's usually the day before a competition or something..i try to loosen up ore than anything.. i usually play a tee shot,a ball from 150,and another from 100.

I started a thread about golfing alone not too long ago myself . Alot of lads on here say they quite enjoy it .

I taught ah no it wouldn be for me , but ended up going around one evening a couple of weeks back . I enjoyed the practice and would have no problem going out again on my loan some if no friends were available .

I've a problem with getting people who are free to play so have often found myself not going out at all. But with the weather being so bad all summer I'm gonna take advantage of any good weather we get...on my own or not!

I'd say I spend the majority of my time playing golf on my own. Find it hard to find people who are interested in practicing/playing non comp events.

Have to say I love playing golf on my own, especially a really early game!

You can really focus on purely the things you want to practice. Sometimes if I'm playing alone and there is a stubborn 4 or 3 ball ahead of me, ill start playing 2 balls, practicing difficult chips, bunker shots, etc...

Obviously only if there is nobody immediately behind me :)

Hi I love to play alone, in fact I make it my business to play one 6am round a month. I'm a member in a links course that runs the length of a strand I walked at least weekly before I golfed. It's funny how we miss things when we are not interested in them. I was only somewhat aware of the links when I walked there not bothered in any way about it but now I get a wonderful recharge from a quiet round on my own. Don't get me wrong I love the banter out with the lads but nothing beats my "me" time.

    Couldn't agree more :).

Getting a nearly round of Golf in is the business; even better if you can be the first one out and not have anyone holding you up!

Must give an early round a go sometime

I used to play at least one evening by myself. I often hit two balls trying different shots and different ways of playing a hole (course management).

Late evenings when the course is quiet is my favourite time. I'd play until I realised that it was almost pitch dark.

I would typically play two balls with different strategies and compare the totals at the end. Its very rare that the more aggressive strategy pays off over the course of a round.

    Interesting read...
Often see one or two guys knocking about the course by themselves. I guess I'm lucky in that my playing partner is always up for a game so there's always someone to play with. I think I'd miss the ****e talk and piss taking, but as a couple of ye have mentioned, it'd be the ideal time to try different strategies.
Must give it a go sometime soon.

Played 18 with 2 balls myself today. Must say, the old concentration definitely dwindled during the back nine as I started nearing the fourball ahead of me and a three-ball behind started putting pressure on me.

Having no playing partners did however allow me to nip into the trees on the 18th and spend 10 minutes replenishing the golf ball stocks - bag is now full again :o
