Does anyone know what the penalty is for driving in the bus lane? Do you get penalty points or just a fine?

Where on that link does it say that? It just says €40 for parking in a bus lane

+1. Happened to me before when I was pulling into the service station on ushers quay. Was very harsh I thought, because it can be dangerous pulling in there unless you get into the left lane immediately after the bridge. Pig on a bike of course fined me.

Just drive up it with your left indicator on, you'll be grand

Look again. It's near the bottom of the page.

Probably best you just stay out of the bus lanes.
Most are between 0700 and 1900 hours.
    some are 0700 to 1000, 1200 to 1900, 1600 to 1900
and ones on dual carriageways are mostly 24 hours.

New points offences came into effect the other day

I drive in them all the time, got caught once about 8 years ago, if i do get caught again then fair enough I'll happily pay up, it's well well worth the time saving everyday for me.

There's the quote from the website, its the 26th offence in the Fixed charges list. Its €60 fine, or €90 if not paid after 28 days.

You're both amateurs. I save more time by choosing to work in an office just up the road from me and doing much of my work from home. Commuting and traffic are things i'm highly allergic to.

Pfftt, amateur. I save more time running reds and ignoring stop signs.

I just get up earlier.......before they come into operation..:p.........its amazing the amount of idiots that dont use them out of hours ...

That's grand. I would never use them cos I thought I'd get points (I'm only 18 so points would mess up my insurance)

And lets hope it stays that way. hurray for idiots.

Its also amazing that the bus lanes on the n32 in dublin have been out of operation for several years and most people still haven't copped onto it. That included a Garda who stopped me 3 years ago in the bus lane and I kindly informed her that the bus lane was not in use and was free for any vehicle to use. I droves off with a massive smiles on me face

Considering they couldn't be arsed removing the line it's not overly obvious. It has faded a good bit now.

Depends on if you're being smart arsed with them if they stop you, they could probably charge you instead with "Failure to comply with traffic lane markings"
Which is 1 PP or 3 if you go to court
